Uruguay: Security:

much better than SA based on stories I've heard but things happen here.

Uruguay: question about passive income:

You don't need legal residency to work, you can work legally with your us passport for some companies. Legal residency will allow you to extend your search for work. Citizenship won't improve that. I doubt your 100k will make any effect in your residency process. And you will find very hard to open a bank account here with your us documents, not impossible though. In order to have high interest rates you will have to deposit the money in pesos. and Yes you can buy property here with less than 100k. good luck and Happy Solstice to everyone.

Uruguay: Birth Certificate:

you can go to the closest Argie consulate and ask for your birth ceritificate. I tried to it once and it did not work but it normally does.

Uruguay: this is a bit unsettling:

I am sorry but they can march as much as they want. It wont help to improve safety.

Uruguay: 1 month in Uruguay with young kids:

As Morell said Jan will be super high season,. If you go the way of camping close to the beach you will have the best weather and a lot of people to talk to. I recommend you go from punta to Rocha to camp. And be careful to not being robed in camping grounds. If you are in a budget you can camp close to the brazilian border and buy your groceries there. La barra del chuy is super in Jan.

Uruguay: US Television in Uruguay:

stepping down the voltage on a tv set is not an issue.

Uruguay: Needing an ally in uruguay:

Aspensophia, Far from the capital is good and the weather is not an issue. But I advise you to come to the capital as a visitor and spend as much time you can, rent a car and travel de country. don't commit to anything before you do this.

Uruguay: Whats wrong with my Topic???:

I ask myself the same question sometimes but I guess this is because I fail to put myself in the shoes of the others. Anyway, opening a company here is very easy, For a one person company http://www.dgi.gub.uy/wdgi/page?2,inscripcion,preguntas-frecuentes-ampliacion,O,es,0,PAG;CONC;1017;8;D;como-debo-hacer-para-inscribir-una-empresa-unipersonal;5;PAG; or you can see a lot of information here http://empresas.gub.uy/ you can even start operating and register the company after you get some business. drop me a line if you need further help.
