Some Forum Posts:

Ecuador Welcome Forum: property taxes:

The property taxes will be about $100.00

Ecuador: firearms:

You may NOT import firearms or ammunition into Ecuador unless you are in law enforcement and that is tough to prove. Ecuador is not a gun owning country, hunting of any wild game is forbidden by the constitution. Gun ownership is very difficult to achieve unless there is a compelling reason. If you own a farm, You may keep one shotgun.

Ecuador: Need recomendations for a good Immigration Lawyer:

Dana is a good facilitator, a lawyer she is not, she is teacher and former TV anchor woman from Detroit Mich.

Ecuador: How to bypass 75 day rule prior to marriage?:

The 75 day rule cannot be bypassed and in fact, you have to submit to an interview at the Registro Civil--and you can be turned down.

Ecuador: Storage In Ecuador?:

I do not believe Ecuadorian buy more than they need, hence no storage lockers. I have been here 3.5 years and have not seen one.

Ecuador: New Citizenship requirement:

The title of this thread is misleading to many, it conveys the idea that becoming a resident bestows citizenship. That is NOT the case, citizenship is completely separate and you cannot even apply to become a citizen until you have had a residency visa for 3 years. The new requirement is from the Foreign Ministry and deals excusively with the criminal background check. I was at the Foreign Ministry on January 5th and I was informed that as of December 24, 2014 all visa applications from US citizens had to have both a state law enforcement agency criminal report plus an FBI report, both less than 180 days old. That requirement is country wide. As Dana Cameron said, Guayaquil has not complied yet, and there is some question if they ever will, ditto for Cuenca. From my 3 years dealing with the Foreign Ministry, I have learned that regulations are usually written in pencil and individual offices seem to be free to ignore them and make their own rules. So what applies in Quito may not apply in Guayaquil. We can hope that some cooler heads in Quito will come to the realization that an FBI report is just a duplicate of what a state agency produces, the FBI does NOT produce anything new.

Ecuador: Beach rentals...long term:

My wife's daugher has a 2 bedroom condo in Salinas that is one block from the beach. When to you want to rent a place. mreding@mac.com

Ecuador: Canadian residency visa:

Because Canada is not a signatory to the Hague Convention of 1961, your documents cannot be apostilled. They have to be authenticated at the Foreign Ministry in Ottawa. And depending on what visa you are seeking, the documents need will differ. You MUST have a criminal background check from the RCMP and either Social Security or pension income of at least $800 US per month, or you must put $25k in a bank CD to qualify for an Investment CD. You do NOT need a birth certificate, but if you are divorced, you need a divorce decree for your cedula. If you have any other questions, send me a private message.

Ecuador: Immigration Lawyer:

Maite Duran, is not a lawyer but, like a lawyer she spends much time tooting her own horn and taking poetic license with the facts.

Ecuador: Residency questions:

JEP is approved and their investment CDs are insured.
