Nicaragua: Employing Domestic Help:
We recently bought property in Pochomil. I sent you a PM
Nicaragua: reloating from U.S:
I am a single woman, living in Granada for more than a year now. I feel safe here, living close to city center. I think the quote of $250 a month for house rental is way too low. More like 500 a month or more, , in a safe, central location. I don't need a car and am very comfortable using chicken buses to travel to Managua when a serious shopping day is needed. Yes, there is crime here, but with common sense you will be ok.

Nicaragua: Parasites?:
MJ...ya know I love ya..but you're killin me!!!
As a pharmacist, I have to say that almost every drug has some degree of possible side effects and or drug interactions. Not experienced by all, but, still possible. Mebendazole is no exception. Of course, 3 days of therapy certainly diminishes the possibility, but, we pharmacists are sticklers for covering our bases (ummmmm, butts LOL).
That being said, I'll be taking my treatment when living in Nica....and NOT being a pharmacist!!!!

Nicaragua: Earthquake:
When I was in Leon in March I was awakened by the bed shaking. The only reason I knew right away what was happening was that, here in Winston Salem NC a couple years ago we had a series of tremors over a 3 day period. When I lived in Charleston SC there were tremors from time to time although I never experienced them first hand.
The up side is....the volcanos are freakin beautiful!!!! And I'm with MJ....when it's your time.........

Nicaragua: What to Bring/What to Leave:
I haven't moved yet (this summer is D day!) but from reading numerous posts on numerous forums over the past year of researching this is what I've boiled it down to:
1- my summer clothes (I included one little black dress...will probably never wear it lol). All winter clothes have already been given to Goodwill!!
2- stocking up on quality "flip-flops", keen sandals, running shoes, etc
3-gave my dewalt drill to my daughter. Bought a smaller, B&D rechargeable drill/screwdriver.
4- a few small kitchen gadgets that I like so I dont have to search all over for them. My Ninja. My cutco knives
5- A couple of family pictures.
6- laptop, phone, ipad.
7- the dogs
8- small supply of linens (sheets/towels)
I never planned on shipping in huge amounts of stuff in a container. And after I checking airline's excess luggage fees, I pared down my list even further.
I've pared down everything I own right now to the bare minimum that I need to live with and show the house. Can't wait to get rid of what's left. It's kind of liberating to let it all go and start anew....new country, language, friends, customs, lifestyle.
