Nicaragua: Safety in Nicaragua:

In November in Managua we were robbed. We had booked a private shuttle to pick us up from the airport and drive us to SJDS where we are staying. On the way home we had the driver stop at Pricesmart. Long story short, he was to stay with the shuttle. We came back from shopping to discover some of our stuff had been removed from the van. It's a long story and because we are still in Nicaragua we can't go into now. We lost over $2000. in items all because we trusted someone before we had determined whether or not we had a solid relationship with them. TRUST NO ONE till a solid relationship has been established. Our Lesson was learned the very hard way. More on this later.

Nicaragua: Cell phones for visitors?:

We have older iPhones we are taking. Does any one know if the mini SIM cards are available at the airport for purchase? Also how ez is it to get a data plan for them? We will be in SJDS and would like the Internet on our iPhones if possible. We also want to use video Skype not just voice call. Thanks for any help.

Nicaragua: Reliable Mail PLEASE:

Ok so mail is not the way to bring some things in. Has any one RECENTLY flown into Managua airport? If so when (month and year) did you come in? If so I'd like to know if customs STOPPED and CONFISCATED any thing you had packed to bring into Nicaragua? Thanks

Nicaragua: What can I bring into Nicaragua:

I am flying into Managua in September to visit friends. I want to bring them some teas they like, as well as dry hot chocolate in cans, some veggie seeds and granola bars. Well I have any problems with customs at the airport? They did not fly into Managua when they first came. They came by way of Costa Rica and could NOT bring these types of items in. Any knowledge and help with CURRENT policy is greatly appreciated.
