Guatemala: Organic cotton clothing?:

I am searching for a gift organic cotton clothing? I am in San Pedro La Laguna now will be headed toward Xela, then relu and around through Matz back toward Antigua and the city so almost anywhere is enroute. I want brown, cream, natural colors not Huipil (sp) fabric. Thanks in advance. D

Guatemala: Pacific side around Port of SanJose:

We stayed a week in Pto San Jose and I loved it but it is hot. We rove down the road along the ocean between PSJ and Monterrico and there is quite a lot of property for sale often by owners with hand painted sign, or there were when we drove within the last year. A friend in Rama Blanca near Sipacate has OCRET on his property which he said was like property tax of $100 per year. We stayed a week at El Delfin enjoyed it, El Rancho near Sipacate is my favorite easy to get to spot but for the best I love chiquestepeque best swimming beach I have found Hamacas Y Pescado is nice, the road in is bad but there is a gas station being built on it so I think they may be planning to pave it.

Guatemala: Besides ..ANTIGUA ..?:

I really liked Rabbinal on the way down from Coban and Santiago where they have the kite festival Nov 1 both sort of in the mountains. There is a beautiful area after the ferry from Montericco between there and Estanzuela not mountains but really nice. I LOVE Chistepeque by the coast & Lake Tujexo I am not sure of the spelling too lazy to look. The road is bad 4x4 would be good but we made it in a little rental car going slow, took a while. If you go plan on staying a few days to make it worth the drive. IMHO it is the best beach in Guatemala nice hotel there kind of spendy for Guatemala and they only take visa. All these areas we found Spanish speakers which is good as my Spanish is marginal at best and we know no Mayan dialects. We have driven around a bit.

Guatemala: Common Law/Civil Union:

I think the person with the income can write a legal contract to be financially responsible for the other. You must do this if you are married as well. Bety should be able to have a lawyer do this for you.

Guatemala: passive income requirements pensionado visa:

You should use your company letter write up a statement of how much your rental income is and have it notarized at your bank, mail it to your SOS to be appostilled and then to the Guate Consulate for authentication. Once that is done it will need the stamps form the foreign ministries office, the same needs to be done to all docs

Guatemala: Banking questions:

I was trying to post on the banking topic already created and it won't let me? I have read you need a Guatemalen to help you get an account at BAM and Citi says it needs 3 months utility bills. So does BAM pay 5% like citibank does? We have applied for Pensianodo residency and it takes a few months from them accepting the docs. So I only have the papers with the number from Immigration showing application has been made. Anyone have answers to these questions? Also we found a lot that seems a good buy, do we go to an abrogado to handle the title search, transfer etc Can that be closed before the Pensianado paperwork is over? Thank you D

Guatemala: GPS Car Navigation:

I found a free map online it is an all volunteer effort they email it to you and you put it on a chip. I put the chip in our NUVI and it worked well last time in Guate and we were out in the sticks. search for garmin compatible fre download and you should find it. I am in Guate and my computer is in USA so I can't remember the name or anything. I was afraid it would not be good but we took the road south to Puerto San Jose then drove down the coast across a ferry above Montericco and up to Estanzuela, then Coban down the little roads through Rabbinal and had no problems, well with the map. Road construction slow buses in front. If NUVI said 1 hr it would be 2

Guatemala: requirements for applying for residency?:

I got my state police page, but once you get your papers you must take them or send them to the secretary of state to have them appostilled. Once you get them back appostilled you must send them to the Guatemalen consulate to get authenticated $10 per page. I had my stuff translated in OR on offical paper and notarized then appostilled and authenticated. So I have the originals and the Spanish copies appostilled and authenticated we arrive April 14 and will be taking our passports to be authenticated at the US Embassy so we will see but without the appostille and Guate stamps they are worthless in Guate from what I am told,

Guatemala: Pensinado applicacion:

Can you make application for pensinado ar=t any of the imigracion officinas or only in GC? Has anyone gone through it and done in=t themselves? Or did you use an abrogodo or tramidor?

Guatemala: Immersion Spanish Schools:

We had a private teacher in San Pedro. He came to our hotel and went anywhere with us. There was three of us my husband who learned English in Kindergarten, our grandson who was a total newbi and I who have been trying for a while and knew some words etc. He has put together a booklet that I still have. I wish I had put one away to protect we had Spanish our first week in Guate and traveled by bus for 5 so it is a little tattered. He worked with each of us at their level and went with us places so we could practice with other people and the improvement in one week, even for the grandson was incredible. I can't wait to return. He also does lessons over skype. He speaks Spanish, English and tutujil. I have his contact info if anyone is interested.
