Peru: DIGEMIN Authorization of Absence from Peru for longer than 183 days:
My understanding is that the only way for an expat to retain their Peruvian residency while being absent from the country more than six months out of the year is if they are granted an Authorization of Absence by immigration. The only way I have heard of this happening is if a private Peruvian company sponsors a work visa with a job contract in a position in another country (such as selling Peruvian products internationally).
I am an American in the process of setting up my own publication company in Peru, which will require me to frequently travel to other countries to promote the books and establish marketing relationships. Is it possible for me to acquire an authorization of absence for my own company? Or is it only if I am employed by another company?
Thanks for any insight into this complicated matter.
Ecuador: I've got land in Vilcabamba and I want your family to have it:
I'm a 25-year-old American and I own an acre of land in a neighborhood project called the Garden of Paradise (plot #10 on www.gardenofparadise.net). I've not really been using it for the last couple of years, and I want it to become something amazing. I've been traveling the world (presently teaching in Iraq) but I know that one day I will want to return to it when I am ready to start settling down and have a family.
I want to do something awesome with it and collaborate with other individuals who share goals such as mine, particularly families looking for a peaceful place to raise their kids away from the madness of the world. For a pretty small investment, one or a few structures could be constructed and it could be pretty damn livable on the grid or off. With the acre comes access to the surrounding mountains and trees (about 350 acres) and it's close to a river. Beautiful mountainous views.
So I want to offer completely free use of my acre to someone who is willing to foot the bill for building a livable structure on it. We can work out the specifics of the arrangement between us if we are both like-minded, reasonable, and of integrity. Last time I was down there, I had planned to build an underground home, but never got past the excavation stage. I am open to all kinds of contruction- from super simple eco-friendly sustainable design to something more modern and luxurious.
