Kuwait: Married Us contractor married a kuwaiti Phillipino woman:

The marriage might not be legal in America but it is legal here. He married her because unmarried women can't deliver here and they would ask who the father is. In that event they can both be imprisoned. I've seen many unwed mothers in jail in Kuwait with their babies. If the mother gives up the name then the father can also spend time in jail as the baby was conceived out of wedlock. Sounds like there's more to his story. Check it out before you start putting all the blame on the woman. I've seen many, many married US contractors that come here to work and end up being in relationships with locals and foreign women. The US embassy does not recognize marriages done in Kuwait unless you register them with the embassy. That's how many of them get away with it. They usually divorce the woman before they return home. But if she really is pregnant, he won't be able to divorce her. It's not allowed to divorce a pregnant woman in Kuwait. He must wait till the baby is born and then he can ask for a paternity test. Sorry, good luck! He needs to get a good lawyer to get out of this one!

Kuwait: american woman coming to kuwait to marry a muslim man:

I have to say that I was shocked at some of the things that were brought up but I do know that there have been some good & bad experiences by American or any other foreign women that are/were married to a Muslim man happen here in Kuwait. I too have countless friends that have shared their stories with me & I've seen 1st hand. People here are like people anywhere else in the world. My 1st huband was American & he was very abusive & controlling. I'm afraid, this choice you have to make is entirely yours. But, you didn't state what your fiance's nationality is. I'd say that has a lot to do with it. 1st of all, Kuwaiti men don't care about the American nationality. They get so many benefits from their government for being a Kuwaiti. So, I'm assuming that your fiance isn't a Kuwaiti. Take care that this Muslim man isn't marrying you just to get the green card or the American nationality. Good luck dear!

Kuwait: Nanny Required:

inq8since91 is correct. You must be the sponsor of the Nanny in order for her to work for you or she is considered working illegally for you if she's caught. You & her will be in trouble. A recruiting agency will be pricey. Starting from 350 kd to get 1 & her salary will depend on which country she's from. Your other option is to put her into a Nursery or private school which are also pricey now a days.

Kuwait: Searching Hi & Lo- Where did the jobs go?:

There have been people that were jailed for just being in the same flat & having a male visitor. It does happen, it's just not publisized in the newspaper. I know of some Filipino families that go to visit their daughters in the Central jail that it happened to. Most flats won't rent a room to a couple unless you show them your marriage certificate.

Kuwait: friend in kuwait jail:

Yeah that's true Roady what the other person is saying in his post, sometimes you can find out info but you need to be able to read arabic. It also depends on the nationality of the person you're inquiring about.....you talking about American's in Kuwait jails? Male or female?

Kuwait: Marriage Requirements:

The advice they give is correct however, you can live together if you find a pricey apartment complex that's full of westerners and europeans. They usually don't ask. But, the other stuff about being asked for a marriage certificate is correct. It's happened to me and others, especially if you're out together after 12 midnight. They have sporadic checkpoints throughtout the country weekly and sometimes daily in certain areas.

Kuwait: Marriage:

kharden is the closest 1 in details but without the humor. Seriously though...depends on the age of the girl and whether she's ever been married or divorced. If never been married. kharden is right, she needs her father's permission. If her father is deceased, then uncle or brother. If she's been divorced and over the age of 25 or 26 I believe, she won't need their permission or she can sue her family for permission. Either way though, kharden is right again, YOU must be a Muslim. If you're not, then you have to go through IPC and take Islamic classes and then do your shahada and get an official court paper saying you're a Muslim. Don't forget you have to have money for her dowry (maher) or don't even show up at her families doorstep asking for their daughters hand in marriage. Be prepared for them to ask you how YOU know their daughter or sister !!!! It could bring on serious problems for the girl if her family is conservative or very religious and they don't approve of you and her knowing each other in a western way. You'll also have to get a form from the US embassy swearing that you are single and free to marry. If you've ever been married and are now divorced, you'll need your divorce paper translated to arabic, attested by the US embassy then you take it over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to get it stamped. Good luck !

Kuwait: flats for rent:

I am an american living in q8 and am currently looking for a new place to move to. could you please post ur email or mobile number?

Kuwait: what is recomended dress in Kuwait?:

Depends on where u live in Kuwait. Some of the local malls are full of westerns in modern dress. Shorts, tank tops, etc...U'll get the occassional stare but nothing dramatic. Usually no1 will tell u anything. Also, the beaches are also very open but u'll feel more at home around Marina Mall beachside or around the Hilton close to Fahaheel. Usually a lot of Americans, Brits & Australians there. There u'll see the occasional bikini. Hope u enjoy ur stay here!

Kuwait: Engaged to a Kuwaiti Man:

Sorry dear but get used to it. I'm an American woman married to a q8y man now for 6 1/2 years. 1 1/2 years in usa and now 5 yrs in q8. Life here is very different but I have to agree with the other reader, it all depends on ur fiance. If he's willing to stand up to his mother then you'll be ok, if he's not, then ur headed for trouble. Most q8y's listen to their mom's & do as they say simply cuz they hate to disappoint Mom. It's an Islamic thing, (Heaven is at the feet of your Mother) which means please your Mom. Just hope that he really loves you & stands up to his family!!! Good luck!
