Nicaragua: The Nicaraguan Grand Canal Project:
i may have missed some of the dialogue. but i have found magicjack to be very helpful with providing a lot of good info. he has in the past made some comments that might have seemed offensive and he has appologized on the forum and people have come back and said, no appologies are necessary.
Nicaragua: English speaking lawyer in Granada?:
magicjack comes throuth again with good info
Nicaragua: I have a super nice rental:

Nicaragua: Animals in Nic.:
about taking your dog to another country. as you say, maybe you should find another home for the dog you have. there a few potential problems with taking and animal with you. first is the plane animal storage area. two things are a problen there. one is the people placing an animal are not not animal people, they may place your animal next to a hostile animal and yours may take days to recover from that fright. the other problem is the area is not heated as the cabin is and your only allowed to take your animal while the weather is suitable. one of the problems you might face upon arrival is the place you rent might not be dog friendly. yes, leave your dog home.
Nicaragua: Leon:
hi magicjack. i spoke with you some time ago about a house rental in your town. looks like i won't be able to get there this year but pretty certain i will next year. i do have a question about short term rental of say 3 months. is a lease and a deposit required
Italy: agencies that find friends:
what agencies that speak english can i use to find a friend in milano around 1960. this is a female who probably got married so last name has changed i assume. the marriage records department in milano would be a good place for me to start because they would have the marriage name but i don't no how to get to that department through the internet. can anyone help me, many thanks
Dominican Republic: marriage:
i met an american from florida who married a woman from puerto plata and they now live in florida. he paid $8,000 dollars and that didn't include the passport and it took 18 months. some time after all that he found out that if his wife to be had done what it takes, it would have cost her $700 and take only 4 months. don't know if that is true but have no reason to believe the man lied about it. and the time and money the woman spent may vary somewhat with how she went about it. the other thing is you need a lot more paper work apostled here at the embassy than you noted. you should check with the embassy for what you need. a few things i remember are: letter from doctor stating you are in good health and have no communicable disease, a local police report stating you have a clean record ( this is only good for 90 days i think ), a letter from your bank stating you are in good financial order. that's all i can remember, check with the embassy and good luck
Dominican Republic: Guarantor for apartment rental:
i can only speak of puerto plata and the surrounding area. puerto plata in on the north coast and has an international airport ( pop ). i have spent the last 2 winters there. my first trip i rented a 2 bedroom apartment for about $375/mo and was one block from the beach and like any city, you don't walk around at night. during the daytime your fairly safe, fairly. found out about the apartment from a taxi driver who took me to the apartment. walked in and gave the woman the rent money and i don't remember but i don't think she even ask to see my passport. stayed there for 2 weeks and left because i found a more suitable area just on the outskirts of town where you can walk around at night. the place is called COSTAMBAR, you can look it up by going to their site, costambar. org. that's where i spent the last 2 winters and already got my flight and a room. your an american so am i, doesn't mean too much however, there aren't many americans there but a lot of canadians for 4 or 5 months and they are a hell of a lot of fun to sit around drinking and talking. i love em although they make fun of me in a fun type of way. as far as my dealings with landlords, there is no guarntors required. go to costambar. org and look at the site if you want to learn more, contact me at my email which is michaelbrazell$@gmail.com. i can give you email addresses you can contact and talk to real people who live there
Philippines: dominican republic vs phillipines:
my son told me things are cheap in the phillipines so i would like to see a comparison. i have spent the last 2 winters in the DR. i rented a one bedroom apartment 2 blocks from the beach at $350/mo for which there was no additional cost and had tv and internet service. food cost was less than $150/month with eating out quite often. beer $2.50 at the bar, and cigarettes $2.50. could someone give me a short answer to where i could live in the phillipines under the same conditions, thanks
Global Expat Forum: i love costambar, it's a place:
look at their site which is www.costambar.org. I spent the last 2 winters there and it was great. costambar is on the beach near Puerto plata Dominican republic. it is a gated community that has hotels, restaurants with American/euro menus, apartments, stores, etc. check out the site
