Belize: Bars on Windows? Trashy? Unsafe?:

I went to Belize City on a cruise in December. We were considering scoping out the city/Belize in general for the possibility of relocating there from Texas. One look at the main street after exiting the customs area from the terminal and we knew not to go any further. Bars on business windows, dirty streets, aggressive locals. We were thinking about running into a church for safety. Again, we knew better than to pursue Belize City as a future home due to past research, but the atmosphere/1st glimpse of Belize has left a permanent bad taste in our mouths. I wouldn't live there, but I wish u happy searching. Maybe your opinion of Belize will be better than mine, as I am soured on this country for good.

Belize: Dog Sitter:

We, my daughter and I, currently live in Texas; however, we would like very much to spend some time in your area with the possibility of eventually moving there on a permanent basis. We have had lots of first-hand experience with dogs--for at least 28 years. We have numerous canines in a variety of sizes, ages, and breeds. After we lost our last two pooches, our hearts have been too broken to get anymore right now. I am a recently retired high school teacher; my daughter is furthering her college work online. Where in Honduras is the English teacher needed? We just came back from Roatan 2 weeks ago. My mother just retired from teaching senior English after 41 years on the job. Now that she has some free time, we are both getting qualifications for TEFL. More info would be appreciated.

I've learned enough about Belize to know that Belize City is not one of the favored cities for expats to reside. However, coming by cruise ship in December, I'm not left with many options except this port. in spite of this situation, I'm still interested in learning all that I can about possibly moving to Belize (residency, cost of living, everyday life, how people made the move, etc). I've tried to get responses on specific message boards pertaining to my destinations, but NO luck w/ answers. Generally speaking, I'm from Texas, but have a strong desire to move to the Caribbean. This December, I'm taking a back-to back cruise hitting places such as Belize, Jamaica, Cozumel, Roatan, and Grand Cayman. I won't have much time in these ports, but I want to obtain as much info as possible while there. I'm coming for a repeat visit to Montego Bay December 16th! Looking to scope out this city for a potential move to the island. Met some wonderful locals on past trips, but haven't located any expats who now call Jamaica home. If you live in Mo Bay or know of any neighborhoods where many expats have settled/congregate please let me know.
