Mexico: Puerto Vallarta Expats - Who Rented, who bought:

I bought a villa in a condo complex on the beach in Marina area 16 years ago. When I was shopping, I thought I wanted an individual home on the beach. Found out that was not appropriate for me, as I would have security, water, gas issues. Much easier in a gated community. Using air is very expensive. On the beach, you really do not need it, as you get a beautiful ocean breeze. No pollution or noise on marina beaches. My area is quiet, with ez transportation to the more exciting areas. I have heard many complaints about small complexes, seems the people can not agree on anything , so I prefer a large complex. Nothing wrong with renting, many condos and homes for rent. I am just the type who needs to buy. It is a buyers market now, many new buildings going up. Selling takes a long time, since there is so much on the market. Hope this helps.

Mexico: U.S. brokerages and mail forwarding services:

MAIL BOX ETC will give you an address of Laredo, TX or Miami FL. Use that as your address, and it will be forwarded to you in MX.

Mexico: will arrive in Puerto Vallarta on 1/12/17:

I have lived here in PV for 15 years, mostly as a retired widow. I love it! What do you need to know? Great medical care and hospitals, several good shopping malls, Costco, Sam's Walmart. Population about 350,000. Wonderful friendly and helpful people. Spanish not necessary, but helpful.

Mexico: Which Pacific Coastal Comminity?:

How about Puerto Vallarta? It is not really a big city, only about 350,000, but has most everything, major airport, Costco, Sams, Walmart, lots of local produce markets. The area south has hills overlooking the city and beach. Area north is flat, but plenty of malls, supermarkets, marina, and beach. Great hospitals and medical care. Guadalajara is 4 hours away by bus, I usually stay a few days when I need a BIG city.

Mexico: Best place for women?:

I am a single female and live in Puerto Vallarta. You have choices here-- live within the Mexican neighborhoods, but still not far from expat areas, live on the beach in a totally expat environment, but go a few blocks inland when you feel like being in Mexico. To the north of PV is Bucerrias, a very Canadian community. Further up north, Sayulita is a sort of hippy surfer community. Reminds me of Berkeley! And, even further up, the exclusive Punta Mita, where the movie stars hang out. All sorts of choices for you, and just by going inland a mile or so, from any of these places, you are in a Mexican community. And they are all safe!

Mexico: Life in Bacalar:

Not familiar with this city. What state is it in???

Mexico: Rental furniture in Tijuana?:

Same goes for sales. Usually homes are sold including the furnature, unless it is brand new and no one has lived in it. So, whether you are renting or buying, you will not need more furniture!!!

Mexico: I'm totally lost:

Just wait for your social security checks to start! There are a lot of retirees down here in Mexico, living on only that. You can do this----- but not yet!!

Mexico: Mail Forwarding from US to Puerto Vallarta:

I use I-SHOP, which is like Mail Box Etc. in PV. I have no problem with them, they are very helpful, and even deliver to some areas. I share the box, to cut down on the costs.

Mexico: Medicare:

Gave up Medicare when I moved to MX in 2001. Have never had a need for it, do not usually get ill. I have Mexican insurance , Plan Seguro, That will take care of any emergencies. Medical care is cheap here, and very good doctors. Why would I go to the USA. Just keep a bit of money aside, just in case you need care here in MX!
