Philippines: Hilongos Bombing:

Any news on the bombing in Hilongos we have not been able to get through to family.

Philippines: US-Philippine Relations:

It seems that President Duterte and President Trump support one another. Trump has come out and seems to have offered Duterte a hand of friendship. Duterte and Obama had a horrible relationship and as a result the relationship between a the US and the Philippines deteriorated. What do you think this new relationship will mean between the US and Philippines and what will this mean for US expats that live in the Philippines. Can we please stick to this topic and not have this discussion deteriorate into partisan politics.

Philippines: NY Times nice article about the Phils:

I am a Duterte supporter but what is the chance that at the end of 6 years Duterte announces that his work is not done and out of concern that the Philippines goes back to its old corrupt self he refuses to give up the presidency like Marcos.

Ukraine: Just Saying !!!:

I am not saying that these ladies story is not true, but my wife has told me that women who come to the US are told by other women about the domestic violence out. My wife was told by her cousin when she first came here that if she wanted out of the marriage to file domestic violence charges with the police. That is what my wife's cousin did with her first husband that brought her to the US. So these women stories might be true but a number of women who came here use domestic violence to get out of their marriage and stay in the US.

Philippines: Trusting Filipina wives/girlfriends:

I do not think all Philipinas should be put in the same category. The two Filipinas that were in my life always put their family in the US first. 1. My grandfather landed on Leyte during WWII met my grandmother married her and brought her back to the US. I have never met a woman that was more dedicated to her husband and children. She always put us first no matter the circumstance. 2. I met my wife in the Philippines in 2007 we married in 2008. She is the most devoted wife and mother I know. She makes a larger income then I do and always puts our family first. I got into an argument with her sister once and she refused to speak to her for a year. So I think putting all filipinas in the same mold is ignorant.

Philippines: Filipina's priorities:

I don't think that it is true for all filipinas. My wife was born and raised in the Philippines in a traditional family. We have been together since 2007 and married in 2008. She is a nurse and makes a good income. She only gives money to her family in the Philippines a few times a year. She can smell a BS story and her family rarely asks for money and knows not to make up things out of thin air. The order of importance for my wife would be 1. Our children 2. Our family here in the US 3. Me 4. Mother 5. Siblings.

Philippines: Abu Sayyaf Bandits Reportedly Kill 1 of 2 German Hostages:

Can dual Filipino citizens with the US get gun permits in the Philippines. My wife has her concealed permit here in the US and has had extensive training. Would she be able to apply for a permit in the Philippines even though she lives in the US. We travel every year to the Philippines and I would feel much more comfortable with her armed.

Philippines: U.S.A.:

If an American is married to a Filipina and applies for Filipino citizenship does the Filipino government contact the US government about the American becoming a Filipino citizen. If not couldn't the American just keep both citizenships even though the American is suppose to renounce US citizenship. When my Filipina wife received American citizenship no one contacted the Philippines government and she could have just kept renewing her Filipino passport.

Philippines: Dual Citizenship:

I have a question a family member who just became a naturalized citizen in the United States. We live in Alabama and drove to the the Philippine Embassy in Chicago to apply for her dual citizenship. She has had one child here while she was still a Filipino citizens and is due to have another baby in December. While at the embassy they told her to wait until the baby is born then come back and all three could apply for dual citizenship. My question is I thought the mother of a child had to be a Filipino citizen for the baby to claim dual citizenship. Does anyone know anything about this.

Philippines: Hilongos Leyte:

I have been going to Hilongos since 2007 my wife is from there. We last visited two weeks ago. There is virtually no night life in Hilongos. The beaches and not nice no sandy white beeches, but there are nice beeches not to far away. There are no major fast food places. No Jollie Bee or McDonalds. There is a 5 hour ferry ride to Cebu from the port. Ormoc is 5omiles away. Massin is a short trip to the south and Padre Burgos is a wonderful dive spot with beautiful beaches a little farther to the south of Massin. Hilongos had good internet and cable connections. My wife's family's Internet and cable were very good. Is there anything in particular about Hilongos.
