Kazakhstan: KZ service research:
Hi,
I tried the link and it doesn't work. Ive been working in Uralsk for almost 4 years, had a heart attack there and would love to see better services for expats.
Kazakhstan: How to move around in Uralsk:
Hi there!
Firstly, welcome to our community. I have lived and worked in Uralsk at said school for 3 years, so somewhat a veteran.
Bus, 60 tt (under 20 US cents) no matter how far you travel. Buses come every 5 minutes, depending where you want to go. But Taxi's are cheap and quite easy to catch (now they are on whatsapp) I catch a taxi most morning and it costs 300tt (@90 US cents) distance approx 3.5 k.
Weather - when you arrive in August it should still be quite hot, around 27c. But the weather changes quite quickly, moving up and down 10 -15 degrees within days, so by the end of September its fairly cool, and by December we are into the minus'. The weather in the depth of winter is bloody cold outside, but everything is double glazed and insulated, and heating is supplied to every home, so you are never cold inside. Things to bring - sheets for a double bed. The sheets here are thin and cheap, but very expensive so your landlord will only get cheap sheets that probably won't fit your bed.
Coat - buy it here. They are not really that expensive and they are suited to the weather.
Living here is quite cheap, but during winter, eating is carbs and protein - not really much choice in vegetables. (potato, onion, carrot, cabbage)
You are arriving into a much smaller team this year, but we do enjoy having the occasional night out!
Please don't hesitate to ask more questions. I took my position here because, quite ironically, an international biology teacher here answered my questions.
We have only 8.3 weeks to go here before the break, so you will be here before you know it.
Regards
Kim
Kazakhstan: Anyone in Astana??:
They got her. I let astana know. Terrifying though.
Kazakhstan: Need visa info ASAP!!!:
Hi
All you need to put down for your visa is the address of the school.
That's what I had to put and gad I problems.
Good luck and welcome to the NIS international family.

Kazakhstan: NIS Update:
Hi
I'm an international at an NIS school - English teacher and work in the same school as biologyman.
They find you accommodation and it is ready for you when you arrive. The apartments are always comfortable. Mine is nice and fairly close to the school.
As biologyman told me on this very forum, it's not for everyone, but I love it. I consider it one of my best decisions. You do work hard, but I find the students great and my work collegues first class.
Which school are you looking at
