Mexico: Mexico Car Insurance Question...:
My car was in Mexico with a TIP and had insurance for the past 6 months. Last week I did a border run to Belize and have returned to Mexico and have a new TIP. I now need to buy insurance again.
When buying insurance online all of the sites ask:
How many days per year is the vehicle in Mexico?
I'm selecting the option "More than 180 days" because my car will be in Mexico until November/December which means it will be in the country (off and on) for almost 11 months. BUT, when I select "More than 180 days" it doubles the price of my 6-month policy. What gives? Should I not be selecting this option? Why does it double the price?
Thanks.
Mexico: Getting a New Import Permit for my Car:
My 6-month temporary import permit is going to expire next month but I'm not done exploring this awesome country. Is there a time period in which my car has to be out of the country before it can re-enter and get a new 6 month permit? I'm thinking of going to Belize for 1-2 weeks and wondering if that will do the trick. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
Mexico: San Cristobal Hotel with Good Internet?:
My family is moving to San Cristobal for 6 months and will soon be looking for a place to rent. I work online and while we're looking for a place to live/rent we'll be staying in a hotel. Any recommendations for a good hotel with above average Internet speeds?
Guatemala: Jogging:
NOTE: I'm a man so opinions might differ.
I've jogged in Antigua several times by myself. It's safe but not an ideal city to run in. The streets are narrow and cobblestone. There is a bike riding outfit there that will take you on some cool routes outside of town. You could go out with them once, then just rent a bike for future trips if your confident you know the route.
The Lake is the place to run. I've probably gone on 100 runs solo. I would run on the streets sometimes but the best runs were into the mountains on the trails. The good trails can be hard to find. I hired a guide from www.MayanRunningAdventure.com to show me around. They were incredible! The prices on their website are for a fixed, multi-day package with hotels, food, etc. but if you contacted them and told them you were looking for a guide for a day or 3 days in a row they can quote you a reduced price. If you contact them, tell them Ken sent you.
Enjoy your run!
Nicaragua: Renewing a Car Permit (Temporary Import Permit):
I'm headed to Managua next week to renew/extend my Temporary Import Permit on my car with US Plates. I've read how and where to do this on other sites (there's a good write up here - http://www.thenextadventures.com/renew-vehicle-import-permit-nicaragua/) but I'm curious if anyone knows the hours of the D.G.A. office in Managua and if they are open on the weekend?
Thanks.
Nicaragua: Internet and Data in Esteli?:
Thanks to the awesome advice of this forum my family has decided to move to Esteli for 90 days.
I work online and need a consistent connection to the Internet.
What recommendations would you have for an Internet provider in Esteli and for a the best cell coverage (with data)...which is better...Movistar or Claro?
Thanks!
Nicaragua: Granada or Leon for 90 Days?:
I'm travelling with my wife and 2 kids (ages 6 and 9). We're trying to decide where we want to settle for 3 months in Nica. Here are our needs:
- Good Internet Connectivity (I work online)
- An expat community (someone my kids could play with)
- Good options for language learning for my wife and kids
Recommendations? Thoughts?
Costa Rica: Cost for Overstaying 90 Days with a Car (TIP):
I am in Costa Rica with a car with US Plates. My Temporary Import Permit is good for 90 days. I'm aware I can't extend it and it needs to leave the country for 90 days upon expiration.
Does anyone know the cost or penalty of my keeping my car in the country for a few days beyond 90 days? It would be ideal for me if I could leave after 94 days. Thanks.
Ken
Nicaragua: Nica Vehicle Import Permit Questions:
My family is currently living in Guatemala and is beginning to plan for travels further South. We drove our car down from the States and have a few questions about having a car temporarily in Nica. I know how to obtain a car import permit at the border but I've been unable to find answers to the following:
1) How long is the import permit good for (I'm assuming 90 days or whatever is remaining on my 90 CA-4 time)? Is this correct?
2) Is it it easy to get the car permit renewed/extended if we stay in the country longer than the initial duration?
Thanks for any info you can provide.
El Salvador: Car Permit and Insurance Questions:
My family is currently living in Guatemala and is beginning to plan for travels further South. We drove our car down from the States and have a few questions about having a car temporarily in El Salvador. I know how to obtain a car import permit at the border but I've been unable to find answers to the following:
1) How long is the import permit good for (I'm assuming 90 days but I read 60 on one forum which does not make sense since I can stay for 90 days w/o a visa)?
2) Is it it easy to get the car permit renewed/extended if we stay in the country longer than the initial duration?
3) It appears that car insurance is not required but I just wanted to triple check. Es verdad?
ONE LAST QUESTION...is there a per person charge for crossing the border from Guatemala? I've read posts from people who say it's free and other's who say there is a $10/person tourist card.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
