In the western Cayo District, in San Ignacio, I would strongly reccomend the Casa Blanca. owner Betty Guerra, as a delightful boutique, homey hotel on Burns St, in the heart of town, at a very reasonable rate, particularly if you pay cash. I have stayed there 2x in 2 years, and will go back there again if I again go to BZ [getting old unfortunately]. Betty is a very lovely hostess!

Belize: How to make cheap calls from Belize?:

Use small download of Voxox, out of San Diego, former Qualcom people. Excellent! Voxox is a cloud gatherer VOIP. Like Skype free to another Voxox user, otherwise just a penny/call, not minute. HP executives have tested it on their intl people and are considering it seriously to incorporate into their hardware as owners [buyout?] You are crazy not to try it out as it works seamlessly. I have used it from Belize, while visiting there.

For very inexpensive world communication, goto Voxox.com and get their free app& virtual #. Similar to Skype, if you call another Voxox member, it costs 0 worldwide. If you phone a non-member, it costs 0.01US/min worldwide. You can't beat that. Voxox is a young VOIP company in San Diego that originated from former Qualcom people. Growing like crazy, getting most of their income from B-B, not retail. I have it and like it very much.

Belize: Engineer/Architect recommendation:

Stephen Miller, a residential architect, who lives in Ohio, is quite familiar w/ Bz building laws, etc, having been heavily involved in a pvt island project just off the SP area. I met him 2 years ago and feel he is competent and honest. I am sure he would welcome discussion of his abilities and your needs. smiller@residentialsunlimited.com

Last Oct [low season] in SI, I paid 500bz, for an unfurnished apt. Also initially I paid $25us/night at Betty Guerra's Casa Blanca Hotel, which was a great homey place to stay initially, right in the middle of town.

Consider Caye Intl Bank in San Pedro, can open acct on line. I have known the bank pres, Peter Zipper for many years. Honorable smart man!
