Romania: Licence for Fortune Tellers:

I would think a fortune teller should be able to foretell the answer to that question without Google or any other legal advise?!

Romania: Survey about Healthcare in Romania:

Angie, if you have misgivings about participating, don't! Anyhow, from what I understand, the survey is about the quality of healthcare in Romania which is an oxymoron considering that Romania is grossly lacking quality of healthcare. There are many reasons why anyone would entertain retiring in Romania; however, healthcare is not one of them.

Romania: Retiring in Romania:

I am contemplating buying a vacation home in Transylvania and eventually, either retiring permanently, or just spending the summers there; haven't decided yet, I have another 5-6 years to decide. Do the Romanian laws allows the Government to tax my retirement income? I will be paying income taxes in the US and wonder if am being exposed to double taxation of my income which will be mainly 401k, Social Security and investment dividends. Also, how are the property taxes calculated? Anyone with knowledge of these issues is welcome to comment. Thank you kindly.

Romania: Is this salary enought for Bucharest?:

Hi Pete, Although I don't live in Romania, I have traveled a few times to Bucharest and know a little about the life there. In order to maintain a western lifestyle, which I assume you are accustomed to, in Bucharest you will probably need about 2000Euros per month. You should expect to pay between 500-700Euros rent for a nicer apartment in the central part of town (Calea Victoria Dorbanti, or Hilton Hotel areas). The food is also relatively expensive; not a bargain anymore. For a nice meal in a nice restaurant you will pay only 25% less than in a similar restaurant in Paris or London. The only way you make ends meet on a 1000Euros budget, is to live like a Romanian, meaning that you will buy food from grocery stores or market and prepare your own meals; entertaining yourself in front of your TV or laptop and go out to clubs or restaurants only on special occasions. Public transportation is the only item that is substantially less expensive than most European capitals; the metro and taxis are insanely cheap compared with London. If I were in your place, I would try to negotiate a better deal or have the company provide for housing, offer additional vacation days, something to sweeten the pot. Good luck!
