Ecuador: Moving to Ecuador, Please critique my situation:
Ccomstock, I'm in the early stages like you. My circumstances for moving are a little different than yours but I understand how overwhelming it is and the need to ask questions. So far I've been lucky with those that reached out to me and have not had to deal with these two idiots as of yet. Just ignore them. Don't feed the trolls as they say (as I am now I guess).
I am self employed and no real heath issues as of yet and I totally understand your take on the HC system here in the states. My guy told me my family plan will go up about four hundred next year yet we have made no real claims. It's only going to get worse. I wish you well. BTW I'm looking at Salinas and Manta. I've been doing a ton of research and OceanHideAway has been a great help and I recommend taking notes from her posts.
Ecuador: Patrick MINGA:
Ocean Hideaway makes perfect sense. I'm also extremely glad that when 2 different people sent me their phone numbers to offer friendly advise on relocating that I didn't call that sick pup.
I also saw above that someone wrote about "innocent til proven guilty". Yeah I get that but when kids are involved most want to hang then ask questions. Me included.
Ecuador: House sitters:
Yes me again with another question: Due to my dogs I'm going to need a house rather than the simple condo life I want to enjoy one day. My question is for when I'm gone for a few weeks at a time. I hear some say to get an Ecuadorian person/couple to stay there. When they say this do they mean full time? If so what measures do you take to find out if/are they trustworthy themselves? I have visions of vacationing in Machu Picchu having a blast and coming home to an empty house. I realize I'm putting the horse way ahead of the cart here but once I have a question I ask. Thanks a lot!
Ecuador: Salinas/Manta:
I am looking in Salinas and Manta. I have found a Real Estate Agent and Lawyer that I feel comfortable with in Salinas. Any recommendations in Manta? A website or email address would be great.
Thanks a lot for your time!
Ecuador: Looking For Black Americans In Ecuador:
I researched and asked a lot of questions about guns Detroit. Seems you can have them but the liability seems too scary to me. From what I understand even if you are in the "right" if you shoot someone you could find yourself in some serious trouble. I have yet to find someone to tell me differently. I have a HUGE gun safe with a variety of firearms and I am leaving them all behind. Get a big dog and a baseball bat.
Ecuador Welcome Forum: "gringo pricing":
I'm told that most of the real estate sites in the States are priced higher for Gringos. Should I expect to find lower pricing once I get hooked up down there with an agent? I'm planning on a year down there, or multiple month long trips, before I move.
Ecuador: Ecuador: Retired Expat couple victim of Home Invastion:
OceanHideAway, informative and comedic at the same time. I love it
Ecuador: no taxis:
Ken, You sure are hung up on this $400.00 a night thing. You sound like one of those nutty liberals that blame the victim or you are just suffering from class envy. Which?
Ecuador: Pets:
I got some helpful hints last time so here is another question or two:
I have three dogs. Two small and one beast (Turner and Hooch, French Mastiff). How much is involved in transporting them. I looked up the laws and they seem fairly easy etc but I was wondering cost, from the states (TN), and more importantly the trama of the travel.
Also I am an extreme fish tank adict. 46 years old and have had them since age 10. Are there any fish type stores, other than fresh and raw, in Ecuador? I am asking because internet seaches turn up nothing. Obviously this is not a deal breaker but it is something I enjoy etc. Any insight or advice would be great. Thanks!
Oh, my two main areas of interest are Salinas and I was just told to research Manta which will start after I hit POST.
Ecuador: Salinas:
I am planning on coming down in a few months to look at houses. I prefer a condo down there but I have a few dogs so not a option. What are good neighborhoods close to the malecon? I am talking within in walking distance(if they exist). I really like the idea of being able to walk to everything. I understand that cabs will be needed at times but I like the idea of being car free for a while. The first 6 months I plan to rent to make sure I'm a good fit. I love the culture so i think I'm going to be ok there but you never know. Thanks
