Brazil: Moving to Salvador!!:
Hi Simon,
I have been in Salvador just over a year. Barra is probably best for both beach & nightlife. Although beaches a cleaner further north.
CELTA will help you! ACBEU is probably the best English Language School. You could start there.
Email me if you like. The foreigners community here is limited but hopefully can point you in the right direction. My husband is from here and we have a 2 year old. Where do your kids live & how old?

Try asking on FB groups Gringoes.com or Foreigners in Brazil or WORLDWIDE EXPATS IN BRAZIL.
Brazil: inscricao consular - anyone done this?:
The NZ embassey Did it for me for R$100. It is just letter with from a consulate of your country (in Brazil) that has your full name, full names of your parents and your date of birth and passport number.
My first letter didn't have my parents name so I had to get them to send again.
They have to do it! They maybe don't know what it is or that it's a requirement for permanencia now
Brazil: Customs- Moving to brazil:
Hi you should have no problems. Customs is very relaxed here! Only thing of note was an out internal flight airline required us to carry electronic goods in hand luggage. I think this is to cover their butts if anything gets damaged?? We bought some brand new iPhones/iPads in Australia before we left, these were never looked at.
Baggage handling is not as careful here so take care to pack well and take whatever you can in carry on luggage. All the best.

Brazil: marriage service:
I think I replied to you last time. I am from NZ and husband Brazilian. We have applied in Brazil with our NZ marriage certificate. Since being here I have found out it is much easier, less time and less documents to use your foreign marriage certificate at your local Brazilian consulate to "register" your marriage in Brazil. You can have it all complete and processed before you leave the US so you can arrive in Brazil on your permanent visa.
I agree with a previous comment. Even if you think you have all you need, you'll take it to federal police in Brazil and they will say "you need one more document or copy of a document". This is very common so come with an open mind and a lot of patience!
Are you planning to marry in the US or in Brazil?
I got all documents I would need to apply for my visa from outside of Brazil and then arrived and needed more things! Eg certified copies of every page of my passport!
There is also another expat website where you may find more help/info called Expat Blog. They have a Brazil section also.
Good luck!
Brazil: marrying a brazilian woman:
Hi there, have just moved to Brazil with my husband who is from here & applied for my permanent visa. Where are you planning to get married? If you have a marriage certificate from outside of Brazil first step is to register your marriage here. You can do that at Brazilian consulate in your home country. If marrying here can use your marriage certificate plus other documents to apply here at federal police. In Salavdor this is at the airport, not sure on Fortaleza?? You can apply for this visa from outside Brazil also but list of documents is slightly different so you'll need to check out what you need. I needed certified (in Brazil) copies of all pages of passport & birth certificate, marriage certificate, police check with fingerprint check included. Get your fiancé to check online as my husband help me organize what I needed to apply here in Brazil. I'm not sure on processing times. 6 months to a year? But you need the marriage certificate for this visa. Valid for 5 years and can renew every 5 years. Only possible to apply for citizenship if you renounce your other passport. Hope this is helpful. As you may know things work slightly differently in Brazil and many people are willing to hire you without seeing a valid visa so it can be possible to work whilst waiting for visa to be processed. Can get a CPF number to work.
Brazil: Expats living Salvador:
Hi I am an Aussie/Kiwi looking to network with/meet expats in Salvador Da Bahia. I moved here 2 weeks ago. Thanks.
Brazil: English teaching in Salvador? Other expats in Salvador?:
Hi there, I am relocating from Sydney, Australia to Salvador, Bahia next month with my husband who is from Salvador & our daughter. I'm looking for any advice on finding English teaching jobs. My Portuguese is not yet fluent but hoping to improve rapidly once I arrive.
I have a CELTA certificate to teach ESL and am also a high school teacher.
I'm also looking to meet people too & make friends! As I only know my in laws via skype so far!
Thanks so much
