Philippines: Blogs about living here:
Hah! Love the post abou your first impressions. Mine were nearly the same. And I was also surprised about jeans. I recall myself thinking: how come? it;s so hot! why? Remarkable: especially about girls! By now I can count on fingers how many I've seen wearing a dress or a skirt. And looks like I have an answer: harder to drive a bike wearing them ehe-he!
I regret didn't start blogging on my own. May be will. But after a year here impressions seem to become not so memorable.
I follow 2 blogs run by expats: feelippines.com and myphilippinelife.com. Hope you might enjoy them also and keep on writing, I'm now your follower also)
Philippines: Other Sites like this....???:
Beside this site I also follow dumagueteinfo.com (focused more on Negros Oriental, but for me that's ok as I live there) and I also snjoy a couple of blogs run by expats.
Feelippines.com and myphilippinewife.com
Philippines: Its Finally Here..:
John,
welcome to Philippines! Hope you'll get positive experience!
Philippines: Moving to Bacolod or Dumaaguete, Philippines?:
franz,
my personal impressions about Bacolod were simply awful. This was the first Philippine city I arrived to and i faced such a huge cultural shock that had to get over it for about a month. Stinky, dirty, cloudy, crowded and gloomy city. Have absolutely now idea how come it turned out to be in Philippino top 10 cities to live.
Dumaguete apeared to be much better to me and here's why. More clean, less people, less hustle and traffic. The weather is usually better. Near Duma there is also a lovely city of Valencia located a bit higher in the mountains and it;s usually much cooler here. Plus: more expats! Missed a white face in Bacolod! People smile more I sware! But tastes differ as we all now so all and all better visit both of them and get your own impression!
PS A road from Bacolod to Dumaguete is extremely scenic! Wonderful views worth seing! And alco you'll have a glance at Negros.
Philippines: Moving to Manila:
Makati or Fort Bonifacio are the best sreas to live in Manila according to my experience. Modernand safe.
Speaking about purchasing a car Manila is also the best place for such purpuse: the widest choice in the country and most reasonable prices. But be careful buying a second hand car - make sure it has never been flooded
Philippines: 3 questions / multi-tasking:
I also noticed that they are very bad in analyzing. As if they look but don't see which is frustrating.
Philippines: Dumaguete Casinos?:
I'm here in Duma for almost a year and haven't seen any casino. As fas as i know gambling is illegal here. But there are some lotto games and sports bettings I think.
Philippines: Need Information about Dumaguete:
If info from a russian will do I would add that you'll also have to spend about 1000 peso for a gas tank for a cooking stove (enough for aprox 3 months of constant use). water billa are cheap, never payed more than 300 peso per month.
Speaking about transport - not just pedicabs, man! Tricycles also! 8 peso per trip with others 8-12 pasengers. Private trip (just you or 2 of you) starts from 50 peso.
Property on the seashore is unreasonably more expensive. The cheapest furnished 1 bed apartment I saw was 18000 peso and it was out of town, in Bacong.
Global Expat Forum: Moving to Phillipines:
knightinwhite,
I suggest to choose among Negros, Mindoro and Luzon islands depends on what lifestyle you prefer.
If you prefer to stay in a big city then better go to either Manila (Makati and Fort Bonifacio) or Iloilo.
If you're looking for more provincial and calm living then Dymaguete (Valencia) and Kabankalan located on Negron I can advice.
