Some Forum Posts:

Colombia: CELLULAR FROM US:

Make SURE you purchase a GSM capable phone if you buy it in the USA. CDMA (Verizon, US Cellular, Sprint, et al) capable phones will not work in most countries in Latin America.

Panama: want to retire in panama:

Randy, I think you need to come down to Panama and see what you like. As others have suggested, a "SEARCH" of this website would be better for your vague question. Same for your inquiry about Costa Rica - do a search first.

Mexico: opiate addiction:

I do not know if you are familiar with this organization, but MAPS is conducting research on psychedelic use in "legitimate" medicine. You may find the following website useful: http://www.maps.org/research/ibogaine-therapy

Panama: A little Help for Upcoming Trip Needed:

pahonex, If you have a computer, and know how to use Google Maps, put "PTY" as your starting point and "ARRAIJAN" as your destination in Panama City, Panama. You can then zoom-in and follow the google suggestions for a route over the "Bridge of the Americas" than goes over the Pacific Ocean entrance to the Panama Canal at Balboa.

Panama: Pensionado Visa:

sastrunk, Thank you for a well thought out posting! It pays to put some time into composing a post or reply and proof-reading it! I also sent you a PM. Mike

Panama: Taxi Driver's Info:

TAXI FOR LEASE: In my recent visit (Sept.16-30, 2014) to Panama, I used Jose Saenz, after a "recommended taxi" totally fell through because of excessive charge quotations prior to my arriving in PC. Jose can be reached at his cell 6614-7811 or by visiting his webpage at: http://www.goldenfrog.net/transport.htm His spoken English is a little rough, but he is learning! Very flexible, at least he was with my changing schedule. I was an hour late getting through immigration and security at Tocumen, but Jose was there bearing a sign with my name on it, as I left the immigration area. Prepare for a long immigration line at Tocumen - about an hour to get through.

Panama: Must Leave:

I cannot imagine not being able to live on US $3600. per month. I am a single male living in Calif. on $1800./ month after taxes. I must be doing something right - or you are doing something wrong? And our Greater Recession is still continuing, despite what the liars club in D.C. is saying. A recession or depression simply means our (US) growth rate is depressed lower than the expected 3-3.5% annual growth rate. If you are really hard-pressed financially, what have you got to lose by getting a round-trip ticket to Panama and just trying to live modestly for a couple of months "out of suitcase"? You will definitely find out if you can adapt to Panama. If you choose to leave the USSA, sit down and write out, on paper, everything you need to cover your bases (leave no debts in USSA just in case you decide to return). Talk to your spouse about your proposed move! Get their input and feelings on the move, too. Some of my friends look at me as if I am crazy for thinking of moving to Panama, but I have to live with myself and march (or dance) to the tune I hear! I am sure you will be okay with whatever you choose to do.

Panama: Shopping for a car:

When quoting Kelley Blue Book (KBB) prices, be aware that there are several categories, all priced substantially different! There is: 1.) What you would expect to pay a used car dealer, 2.) What you would pay a private party (three+ sub categories here!), 3.) What you would expect for your car as a trade-in.

Panama: Accommodation in Panama City Reliable lawyer for retiree visa:

Make certain when and if you do a Google Map search to find Hotel Montreal you enter the name as "Hotel Montreal" and NOT "Montreal Hotel". I did the latter stunt and found another place in Panama City that is NOT the real Hotel Montreal. The bogus hotel is off Via Grecia and Calle Demetrio Herrera Sevillanos. It might be their corporate HQ.

Panama: Corporate Taxes:

There are two countries on this planet that tax their citizens on everything they earn in any other country, even if those citizens are non-residents of those two countries. They are "The Land of the Free' (U.S.A.), and Eritrea. There is a pretty good chart on this reference page (Icannot attest to its accuracy): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_taxation
