Cyprus: schooling question:
Hi. You didn't say which part of Cyprus you are moving to but if it is Nicosia I can pass on my own experiences. I've just been over during the half term and looked at 3 English schools for my 7 and 10 year olds. These were American Academy, Junior School and Falcon. Of these, only the Junior School follows the English KS1 to KS5 system. At each they were required to sit entrance examinations in English and Maths which take between 1 and 2 hours. Falcon was the only school to charge for this (CYP£25 per child).
One problem we faced was which grade they should enter as the system in Cyprus is different - if the birth date is in June or later you may find that your child may be recommended for a grade 1 year lower than you might expect. Fortunately my daughters 'aced' the exams at 2 of the schools and were offered places at the 'right' grade - we chose Junior School ahead of American Academy but you need to visit them yourself and make up your own mind.
Generally the standard of education in Cyprus is much higher than the UK although for English schools this comes at a price - around CYP£2500 per year (much cheaper than UK private schools though).
Hope this helps.
Paul.
Cyprus: Engineering Jobs in Cyprus:
I am interested to learn more of Engineering opportunities, in particular Electronics or Software available in Cyprus. I am looking to relocate to Nicosia in the near future but would like to continue working in my field of expertise if at all possible. Internet searches have so far proved fruitless - can anyone offer any suggestions ?
I have previously worked on military products but more recently have specialised in automotive.
Thanks for taking the trouble to read this and I look forward to any advise or information that you may have to offer.
Paul.
