Ecuador Welcome Forum: tax on mail:

I recently saw a blog that claimed that now in Ecuador you have a terribly high tax on any packages that you receive. Does this include everything, or just certain items? For instance, if I ordered a book for my home schooled kids would the tax make the cost prohibitive?

Chile: World's largest pool:

I saw an ad for this in San Alfonso Del Mar and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it? Can a person rent an apartment there? If so, what has been your experience?

Panama: relocating to panama from uk:

Nicaragua: Crime? Water?:

Do you have many home invasions in Nica? And, do you have any water issues? Meaning, are you able to have a water system that provides for your needs?

Panama: The Other Side Of Panama:

I can be a witness for the police in Bocas. While we were renting a house on Caranera, the Bocas police showed up on a manhunt. They said they had received a call about a robbery and were checking it out. Of course, they had no idea who had actually called or if there really was a robbery, but it's the thought that counts, right?

Colombia: Choosing a place to live....:

I'm curious about Manizales. In what way are they conservative? We are looking into Colombia and we are pretty conservative ourselves, but that also depends on your definition of the term. :)

Colombia: Jardin, Colombia:

If you don't mind my asking, Why Jardin? What do you like about it? We too are scouting and any information is appreciated, especially concerning small towns.

Colombia: Marinilla?:

Does anyone live in or near Marinilla? We're looking into this area and I wondered if any of you have any input into that town. Thanks.

Ecuador Welcome Forum: Gringos?:

We experienced the "Gringo price" in Panama when we visited there. We have heard that Ecuadorians are not as eager to "milk" gringos as in other Latin American countries. What has been your experience? Do you find that you can befriend Ecuadorians without wondering if they are just after what you can do for them? Forgive me if this sounds like a snobby question or something. We're just trying to find out all the details of our possible countries as we can.

Panama: Panama or Costa Rica?:

So...Panabud, what country is good for expats? We're looking into several, but it's hard to find reliable information. I know wherever we go, we'll TRY it for at least a year before buying. But, which country to choose?
