Italy: Moving to Italy possibilities:

It is so true that it is not very easy to just move to Italy. Not like here in the US. We have applied for dual citizenship through my husbands grandfather. It took us about 3-years and some $$ to get all the paperwork needed. We applied and were approved on 11/2/15 and still waiting for our Italian passports. We are helping others obtain theirs. Our blog has some info that might help you. Mind you, the Italian government is ALWAYS changing the requirements. That is why I do not post specifics as it might be outdated in a month but it might give you a start: ouritalianjourney.com While we are waiting for our passports, we are traveling back and forth to Italy for 90-days which is all our US passports will allow. We are trying to find a location (north or south) that we want to live for 1 year.

Italy: Garmin Nuvi or Android Phone App:

I was wondering if we needed to pack our Garmin for this 90-day trip or can our cell phone (will be getting an Italy carrier when we get there) pick up Google maps or something to help us navigate? I've never used my cell phone before for navigation but people seem to in the US.

Italy: Train Schedule App:

Do I recall there is a really good app for train schedules & pricing? I downloaded Trenit and the prices look higher than we just booked on Italiarail.

Italy: Purchased Italia Rail Tickets:

We are finally headed to Italy but on our US passports as the Italian consulate is so far behind, they still have not issued our Italian passports. We are tired of waiting so we will have to return to the US the beginning of November to get them. Meanwhile.... We purchased our rail tickets last night from Malapensa Airport to Parma. Here's my question: One of the emails says under Ticket Pickup & Valadation: "You are traveling on an eTicket, no paper ticket is needed prior to boarding the train. You will simply provide the ticket number (PNR) above to the Conductor for validation. The second confirmation email says: "Go to a Trenitalia kiosk at the station at least 1 hour before departure to print your paper tickets. Enter ticket number and the lead passenger..... and under "Validation Required" "Your printed tickets require validation at one of the machines located on the train platforms. Insert tickets into machine for validation prior to boarding train. So.. which is it? Both emails are from ItaliaRail. How do I know which to do??

Italy: The Next Step:

Hi. You don't say how you are staying in Italy for 1.5 years. Are you there for school or did your company send you for work? This information all matters. We obtained ours while here in the states and are awaiting our Italian Passports. We hired a lawyer who helped us with some of the paperwork we were having difficulty obtaining. It also depends on who/how you are getting the citizenship through. A parent, a grandparent? We have some information on our blog: ouritalianjourney.com We also have the name of our lawyer who has helped us through the process. We are just waiting to receive - and then we are off. Again, there is specific questions to be answered to know how you are going to approach the dual citizenship. Again, through family it also depends on the year you were born. Lots of questions you need to answer before most of us can help point you in the right direction. There are also lots and lots of older posts that might help you too. Take a look back a bit. Good luck! It took us $$$ and 3+ years to be approved - yet we are still waiting on the Italian Government!!

Italy: Doctor Records:

We hopefully will be leaving soon for Italy and I was wondering if we should bring our doctor & dentist records with us? Hard copies or should I scan it on a thumb drive?

Italy: International Bank:

From the great information I got on this website, my husband and I opened a Schwab account. I have it so that my Desert Schools Credit Union account and the Schwab can be transferred both ways. I get better interest from the DSchools money market than Schwab but no fees with Schwab.

Italy: Virtual Private Network:

I would love for you to repost as we are PC users and both my husband and I are not tech savvy and are trying to figure out the tv/computer issue for when we move shortly. Thank you!!!

Italy: Dual Citizenship Completed:

For everyone that has followed our journey, we have been approved for dual citizenship and are just waiting for our Italian Passports!!! This happened on November 4th and we put our house on the market and sold it within 10 days. Home inspection is tomorrow and then its just a waiting game. Please follow us and we would love to hear comments and suggestions at: www.ouritalianjourney.com Thank you to everyone who has helped with ideas and moving tips. It's going to be a great adventure.

Italy: Nespresso Machine:

Can you purchase Nespresso pods in Italy? I was wondering if I should sell my machine or can I bring it with me?
