Hi, you should get medical insurance in Montevideo. I took the advice of some Uruguayan friends who advised me to go with Hospital Britannico (I'm told it's the best), which was a natural choice anyway for me because I'm British. I think my company is paying about $US 20 per month.

Sorry for the somewhat late answer to your question, but I have only just found this website! Sorry to dissapoint you but there is not really a shortage of IT people in Uruguay, because generally the job situation is pretty bad. In fact, there are many unemployed IT/software people in Uruguay, and for the people who are in work, the salaries can be very low indeed. I'm English, working for a French technology company in Uruguay, which is an interesting mix. If you are already in Uruguay, let me know.
