Philippines: Philhealth:

Expats who are currently on their wives policies need to be accompanied by their wife and a copy of the current policy when and if they opt to avail themselves of a new policy under their own name at the new prices. By having their wife and a copy of the old policy on which they were listed, they will not have a six month wait for the new policy to be in effect and coverage will begin immediately.

Philippines: Bags being Slashed:

Family and friends here have not experienced it and the young folks new of no one who had either. That is not to say it does not happen, but it doesn't seem to be all that common.

Philippines: Trump executive order allowing travel from Phils to US:

Which executive order, the current order does not include any mention of the Philippines and the revision has not yet been issued so comments regarding the addition of southern areas of the Philippines are at this point are irreverent as it amounts to gossip and what if's. The Philippines embassy has made it clear to the Filipino community in the states that they will be ready to answer questions and help where they can. http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2017/02/02/1668384/us-law-firm-claims-draft-eo-adds-philippines-trump-travel-ban With regard to the Glass / Steagall Act. Democratic POTUS Bill Clinton and Republican Senator Phil Gramm caved to the big banks telling us all what we already know, that the U.S. governments allegiances are rarely with the interests of the populace in general and has little to do with Trump's travel bans at this point. Maybe we should wait for the new EO issuance before commenting on what we know nothing about? I hope for the best as my wife, her family and friends both here and in the states could be negatively affected, but then again depending on the content of the EO, they may not.

A good read with regard to your question. http://www.edf.org/sites/default/files/9553_coal-plants-health-impacts.pdf

Philippines: Mail:

For important documents like bank cards, we use either UPS or DHL. Yes they are a little pricy, but we always receive the item at our door. We used these services twice last year. You can also use a mail forwarding service such as usabox.com https://www.usabox.com/ I know of one expat who says he has used their services for 7 years without issue.

Philippines: Gated Subdivisions around Tagaytay/Silang/etc.:

Depends on the budget. Tagaytay Highlands is a beautiful place with great amenities. Riviera estates / Riviera Golf and country club in Silang offers wide tree lined roads and great amenities in Silang and and quite a few expats. Canyon Woods is a beautifully laid out subdivision with great amenities just outside of Tagaytay near Laurel Batangas. South Forbes along the Sta Rosa/Tagaytay hwy offer nice homes and large lots. All have good security and great amenities and videos of the developments can be found on youtube to give you a better idea of the layout and the amenities. Once your in Tagaytay on the Aguinaldo hwy and come to the rotunda (roundabout) travel west toward Tagaytay city and through it. You will find nice subdivisions on both sides of the road as you head toward Nasugbu. Small subdivisions usually offer less at a lesser price with smaller lots and home stacked on top of one another. Good luck and happy hunting.

Philippines: Drinking Water:

Tap water disguised in a sealed bottle. Some street vendors have a little trick of re-using purified water bottles by filling them with tap water and using a heated item like a soldering iron and melting the broken tabs back together to appear as though the cap is sealed. It will twist and snap the tabs just like the real thing. Check the tabs to see if they look to have been melted and resealed. At the refilling stations, some may clean out your container before refilling and if they are using a soapy solution some will remain because the container is not thoroughly rinsed, the soap residue can make you sick to your stomach or cause diarrhea.

Philippines: Jobs:

My brother in law is an engineer with 30+ years experience at a manufacturing plant in Laguna, as well as being a plant manger. With other members of the plant he has made trips to Singapore, China, Taiwan and other Asian countries during his career and is scheduled to make another two week trip to China soon. His income is less than 20K pesos per month.

Philippines: On my search to find a Philappino Wife:

ChaseB, While living in the states with my Filipina wife, I saw no change in her attitude or personality. The only changes were in the form of the knowledge she acquired that allowed her to work and live in the states positively. She had no wish to join in on local Filipino groups and embraced her experiences in the states while making a couple of friends with Filipinas married to Americans and living in our area. Her very large family in the U.S. and Canada who we spent time with, still cooked Philippine dishes and celebrated with a mix of new and old traditions. I know of only one of the family who abandoned their family for a dive into materialism and life in the fast lane. The rest are simply now working Americans with family. When you come, hopefully you will do so with eyes wide open and with the understanding that you will be seen by many as a rich mark and an opportunity. A lot of young ladies will tell you that you are a very handsome man and age means nothing. Of course age means nothing when your wallet is the object of their affection. Don't flash your cash or brag, Keep your finances private, don't tip heavily and don't offer to buy for everyone and offend no one, you will lose. Drugs in you drink can happen to, with you waking up to find EVERYTHING you have with you has taken flight as well as your passport and you are now stuck in a very unforgiving landscape with little in the way of help available. If your searching for a Filipina wife, are you looking for eye candy or a strong woman who will challenge you intellectually and keep you honest? If it's eye candy, rent a place on the beach and get a girlfriend or two and keep your wits about you. If it's a relationship, it takes time, honesty, compromise and a willingness to work for what it is you expect from her. Two way street. Ask questions, listen to the answers, wait awhile and ask the same questions again to see if the answers are consistent. Does she like baubles and beads and all things shiny and new that will soon empty your wallet? Or does she seem to take pleasure and joy in simply being in your company? The tsunami of attention you receive at first will most likely not include the woman of your dreams but your lust. Watch how she interacts with others, who are her friends? They are a reflection of her. Meet her family, is her home clean or a pig sty? Filipino food can be delicious if your wife is a great cook as is mine, or is can taste horrid is your wife's cooking is also horrid. Can she drive? It may be helpful. Does she work, at what and what does she do with the money? My wife and I had fun during our two year get to know each other dating and talking time and one thing we found fairly quickly is that we shared a twisted sense of humor and made each other laugh and smile. That continues to this day. Good luck, be honest if you want honesty and let go of the ones with the red flags and listen to the voice that tells you that this pretty face isn't the one.
