Philippines: TIEZA travel tax:
I will be making a visa run next month. Been here 3 yrs and must leave for one day and then return to begin another 3 yrs. If anyone has done this recently I need to know if I must pay this special TIEZA travel tax of about 1620 pesos at the aiport?? Also, is the airport in MAnila still charging the terminal fee of 550 pesos? Thank you

China: New Chinese/US Visa Regs:
If any one here clearly understands the new visa regs between the USA and China I would welcome a chat. the new agreement is being heralded in the USA as something great for citizens of both countries. I rec'd somewhat of an explanation about the new policy from a Chinese visa service. but after that explanaton do not see the benefit to US tourists visitng China.
My understanding so far is a tourst may be issued a ten yr visa, meaning for 10 years neednt reapply. however this L Visa oly allows one to stay in the country for 60 days at whcih time you must leave and re-enter.
Isnt his what L Visa holders have been doing all along? how has this new law changed anything for the L Visa holder?
Philippines: NBA:
Have Dream Satellite TV in the phil and very disappointed. I thought for sure BTV Channel would be broadcasting most of the playoffs live. 80% have been taped replays. So sad.
Anyone have a better Sat. Company here?
Philippines: SHOCKING:
Fr N. Mindanao near CDO: My current electric bill nearly doubled !! Anyone in other provinces/cities exp this??
Philippines: MLB:
I want to find out if anyone on this site living in the Phil now has signed up recently or in the past for a MLB(Baseball) TV subscription. Would like to watch as many games as I can, but not sure it transmits to the Phil or if it does, how the reception is?? Thank you
Philippines: Fish:
I want to eat some fish here in the Phil but so many in the market and not familiar with the names. Anyone recommend a good tasting fish for me?
Philippines: Cell Phone Use in the Phil:
Call me stupid, but after being here for 8 months I did not know the cell phone policy with my carrier, Globe. I rarely use my phone, sometimes not at all during any given month. I do like to keep a little money in it in case I have an emergency at home or on the road. But today, I found out this is not possible. If I put 50 pesos in my phone and don’t use it in about 5 days, it will be gone. I believe 100-500 pesos will be good for 75 days, but if not used, this will be gone too. I kept wondering why every time I tried to use my phone it never had any money in it. Now I understand. So appears my only option is to make a 100 peso donation to the phone company every 75 days, just so I have it if I need it in an emergency.
Philippines: ACR Identification Card:
Been here 8 months now and still have not gotten my ACR Card for ID purposes. The only place I needed it was at my bank to open an account. So yesterday the clerk at the immigration office gave me a notarized, signed letter stating that I had indeed applied and paid for it, and today I presented this document to the bank, which they accepted (BDO).
Philippines: New Visa Renewal Policy:
Not sure how NEW it is, but yesterday I went for my 2 month visa renewal. I was informed by the clerk in the office that henceforth, I will be able to able to renew my visa every two months for a total of 36 months, before I have to leave the country for a day and return. So, no more 16 months and out or 24 months and out, a full 36 months of renewals. There is no special request needed to be filed in Manila; just 36 months of renewals every two months. In addition, she informed me that if and when I do leave the country, she can process my exit visa permit in her office, so I wont have to worry about doing that in Manila. I will add here that I am living in Northern Mindanao. Different offices in the country seem to have slightly different guidelines, so be sure to check with your local office to make sure they are following the same type of guidelines. I was also informed that there is indeed a new type of visa extension which is good for 6 months. It is called L S V V E. However the clerk told me if I wanted that type of visa that it would have to be processed in Manila. So I will continue with my every two month renewals, as it will be easier for me this way.
