Guatemala: S.A. Corporation:

I found this one. I hope it answers your questions. http://portal.sat.gob.gt/sitio/index.php/leyes/doc_download/4147-persona-juridica-inscripcion-de-sociedades.html

Guatemala: Rentals sitting long?:

I have a property for rent in Antigua Guatemala. In my case, it is always up because it is available short term. I would love to find a long term tenant though. You are welcome to come and see it when you arrive. You will fall in love with my neighborhood.

Guatemala: Items to take:

I have seen electric blankets at Sears (Majadas) but that was about 3 or 4 years ago so bring one just in case.

Guatemala: Appraisals in Guate?:

Hello guys. Let's be nice to each other. To answer the original question, YES. There are property appraisers in Guatemala. My family and friends have used them. My advice is to contact the Guatemalan Realtor Association (Cámara de Corredores de Bienes Raíces de Guatemala) and ask them for recommendations. Web Page: http://ccbrg.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ccbrg Properties are most certainly registered at the National Level and if there is a way to avoid property taxes, I haven't found it. Taxes are paid directly to the county (Municipio). Information on the National Registry: http://wikiguate.com.gt/registro-general-de-la-propiedad/ Realtors are not regulated by the government but the above organization provides certification so make sure your realtor is certified. A lawyer is always needed to write the purchase contract and transfer title so ask around and make sure your lawyer is reputable. Have fun and be responsible in Guatemala. Good luck!

Guatemala: Lost one:

I hope your boy finds his way to a productive and happy life. I agree with your family that you should cut him off but I would never want to be in your shoes. I might find myself making the same decision that you are and enabling him. It is a tough choice and I wish you and him the best. Just FYI. This is the "group of very passive Jews" referred to in this thread. They have fled Israel, the US and Canada. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/177556

Guatemala: Calls to USA:

I have a vonage phone so that I can talk to anyone in the US/Canada as much as I want and they can call me for free as often as they want. It works great.

Guatemala: Arriving In Antigua In June!:

Just keep in mind the FAA rules and limits on Mosquito Repellent: https://www.faa.gov/about/initiatives/hazmat_safety/more_info/?hazmat=46

Guatemala: GPS for highlands?:

In my experience, Garmin GPS devices are the easiest to get free maps for. It is based on Openstreetmap. I would get one of these before coming to Guate and download the region that you need for free from this site: http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ Let us know what your end up doing. Thank you and good luck! Paulo

Guatemala: Cost of Living:

This question comes up frequently and it is always relative to your own standard of living and varies quite a bit depending on location. For example, La Antigua Guatemala will be much more expensive than Chimaltenango, just a few miles away. I found this Cost of Living stat site pretty useful. http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/country_result.jsp?country=Guatemala Although I can't vouch for the accuracy of the numbers in this article, they are consistent with what I know. The article is very informative about how family finances work for people living in Guatemala. http://alittlemoresalt.com/2014/08/life-on-a-guatemalan-salary/ Good luck.
