Global Expat Forum: Any expat moving to Philippines, Makati?:
I was there 3 years and saw in the Millennium. Traffic is terrible with vast differences between rich and poor in short distances. For women do not put your handbag down anywhere as it will be stolen in a second. Also it should be worn infront of the body not behind as it is liable to be slashed open. Be careful when going out at night, in general you have to be very careful of yourself and personnel property,
Global Expat Forum: Best of Desert:
While in Qatar back in 1992 I enjoyed walking across the desert at night looking up at the spectacular star lit sky. It really was a fabulous sight.

Global Expat Forum: planning on taking the expat plunge. Need advice where to go with best outdoor recreation opportunities:
I suggest you check out Ecuador, which has all modern facilities and only a short flight from the states. There are I believe quite a number of American expats living there.

Global Expat Forum: Renting out a UK house when abroad:
After renting out our house in England with what we thought was a good choice of rental agent we experienced incredible problems. First no rental payment was put into our bank account, this however was nothing to what followed. After deciding to sell I informed our tenant who at first said no problem and she would move out. After changing her mind it took one year of going to and fro to England and going to court she left. However, we had to forgo all the rent she owed us plus pay all the costs of the case.
Since then the law in England has changed wit it easier to get rid of tenants who refuse to leave.
If renting out your house, use an agent who has been recommended by another expat who has used their services.
Good luck.
Global Expat Forum: Greetings to Everyone:
After being there, I suggest you go to Boracay in the Philippines, as this without doubt is a fantastic place to chill out and relax on one of the best beaches in the world.. If you want more life, you can always take a boat over to Cebu .
