Malaysia: Recommendation for Hotel in Penang:
I will be traveling to Penang, with my girl friend, from July 2 to July 6. We like beaches. We are looking for a hotel for these days, but we are on a budget. Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay that is a good value?
-Thanks
Thailand: Politics and Safe Travel:
In June-July, I am planning a trip with my girlfriend to Phuket, Bangkok, Pattaya, Cha Am District, and Hua Hin District. I have heard a lot about political unrest in Thailand. What does the situation look like from inside the country? Should I expect any problems associated with the political unrest? Is it safe to travel around? Can you offer any suggestions for safe travel?
Thank You
Thailand: Visit for Retirement Plan:
I am from the US and I will be coming to Thailand in June 26--July 13. I will be traveling with my girlfriend. We want to explore the possibility of retiring in Thailand. A couple of years ago, I was in Phuket and Bangkok. I enjoyed the experience immensely. This June-July, we are planning to visit Phuket, Bangkok (briefly), then Pattaya and Jomtien Beach, then Cha Am District and Hua Hin District. We want to get some sense of what these areas feel like---even though we have a limited time to travel. Can anyone suggest cheap places to stay, preferably on the beach? We are not looking for western type hotels---just a small room to sleep. Also, I would appreciate comments on what would be valuable to see in Bangkok, Jomtien Beach, Cha Am District and Hua Hin District. We are trying to travel cheap, and we want to see the real country, what it is like to live there, not just see the tourist areas. also, I love the food, so (cheap) food suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You!
Malaysia: Visit for Retirement Plan:
I am from the US and I will be coming to Malaysia June 19-June 26. I will be traveling with my girlfriend. I was in KL for ten days a couple of years ago, when I came for a conference, and I really enjoyed it. Now, I am thinking of retirement (I am almost 59). Malaysia made such an impression on me that I am considering retiring here. I want to explore the country a little more. I know that getting around in KL is easy by train. But I am thinking of going to see the east and west coasts--to see what they are like. I love the beach. Can someone give me suggestions of the best way to get to the east and west coast from KL? Is there public transportation from KL to the east and west coasts? What places would you recommend that I see? Is renting a car expensive? What is involved with a car rental in Malaysia?
Singapore: Open Bank Account Without Work Permit?:
I am currently living in the US and I want to open a savings account in DSB bank or OCBC bank in Singapore. Some of the bank web sites say that I must have the following:
Employment pass issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of Singapore
or
The In-Principle Approval Letter issued by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) of Singapore.
I have neither of these documents. However, I plan to travel to Singapore in June 2014.
Any suggestions on how I can open my savings account?
Thanks.
