Panama: Yellow Fever certificate advice:
On the customs form there is a question about countries visited within the last...I think 6 months. Check your airline to find the exact timeframe. Anyway, we visited Panama, returned home to US, then a couple weeks later vacationed in Jamaica. We were detained because Panama is on Jamaica's list for yellow fever screening. We spent about an hour answering questions but were eventually permitted to enter since we had stayed in the city and not the interior. They were especially concerned because it had only been 2 weeks since we were in Panama before arriving un Jamaica which isnt enough time to develop symptoms. They asked if we felt flu-like symptoms and for contact information to follow up with us in a few days. The whole thing was such a hassle. If you are required to have a certificate to enter Panama from Brazil then you will save lots of unnecessary drama by just getting one before attempting to enter. Just my advice based on my Jamaica experience.

Panama: Buying Cellphone on Visit to Panama:
Again, it depends on why you need a phone. Sprint offers a free option to have free unlimites data and texts with calls at reduced rate. But if you need a local Panana number then this doesn't help.
Panama: Thinking about going to Cuba:
llseldon, two things came to mind as I read this post. You consistently try to shut down discussions that are not "about Panama", yet then you post this account of a visit to Cuba. Why?
If the intent was to discourage folks from visiting Cuba, it did not change my mind at all. The sole reason that I plan to visit Cuba is to experience its culture and its people rather than to judge it.
Panama: Corporation:
Oscar, in addition to Ranadelnorte's comments, if a property is under a corporation (or foundation), it is very simple to make arrangements for your assets to go directly to whomever you designate. Simplifies estate planning. Probate in Panama can take years.
Panama: 'Who's it' St Gib:
Yeah, it's sickening. Knock it off dunnee.

llseldon, what's wrong with Bella Vista?
Panama: Anyone heard about this accident?:
You can bring under $10k in without declaring it. Anything above must be declared.
Panama: which car brand ?:
I don't want to hijack Oscar's thread. But wondering how easy it will be to maintain a Toyota hybrid. I have one right now and want to buy one there when I move.
Panama: Purchasing Property in Panama:
Here's a different point of view. I bought in Panama. With a mortgage. It was not an onerous task. And it made sense, in part, because of the additional due diligence that bank involvement provided me. The bank makes clear title an absolute certainty. The seller paid taxes are an absolute requirement in order for the transaction to close. And like others have said, it keeps more of my cash in tact, while also gaining a tax deduction. I bought nearly 3 years ago before I moved there and have had a tenant, the same tenant, renting the entire time...paying my mortgage. Now I am finally moving to Panana in June (whoop) and have a small mortgage that I can pay in full without penalty in just 2 years and then live rent free indefinitely. I can include the property in my kids legacy. Rent it out again if I decide to move on.
