Saint Lucia: Need advice:
Hello Peepmom,
I have lots of thoughts and advice, but I would like to know what type of business you are thinking of opening.
We have been able to open and run a quite successful business here, but its not been easy. We have children 8, 11, and 13 here. We home school them via the internet. It works well.
Also, what area of the states do you hail from? That knowledge will help gauge what you may be up against economically.

Saint Lucia: Year 8 - which school would you recommend for an expat child?:
I would recommend home schooling. Unless you are from this culture, its the best option, IMO. There is a school for Expats, called The International School, but it is very expensive. However, it may be the right fit for you.

Saint Lucia: Young expats:
Hello Parker,
Good to know you.
St Lucia is a great place for you guys. Lots to do here. Great night life, IMO. Very good restaurants. Malls, Supermarkets and the housing is good as well. You can buy a good used car, no problem. Cash is king.
As far as young people, there is no a lot of Ex-pat 20 something people here. My son is 27. My daughter is 19. I'm a very young 50 and My wife is 50ish as well.
Working here would be difficult in the service industry. Those jobs usually belong to locals and you'd be taking someone's job if anyone hire you in that field.
I own a commercial refrigeration company. If any of you guys have a mechanical mind, it would not be out of the question to work with us. We need good people here. Lots of work, not a lot of technically minded people.
Computer service is another possibility here.
I love to play pool, I have a good table in my home here and there's a couple other places to play as well.
Let me know if I can help you in any way whatsoever.
Blessings to you,
Joey
Saint Lucia: jumper wearing:
The temps here this time of year (winter if you can call it that) the temps get down to the middle 70's. Unless you have a circulation problem, there's no need for any warm clothing. However, it might be a good thing to bring some very light weight long sleeve PJ for the evenings when the mosquitoes are bad.

Saint Lucia: sports and hobbies:
OK, Lets just get one thing straight. The best sport on Island is Billiards (as in pool). Two questions to Steve. Do you play? AND more importantly, who do you like in the election?

Saint Lucia: Visit:
The best place for Ex-pats is the Marina on Friday evenings. Saturday evenings are not bad, but Friday is much better. The best Beach on Island is Smugglers Cove, at Cap Maison Resort. Anyone can go there, at any time. There`s a great little bar called The Naked Fisherman.

Saint Lucia: Moving to St Lucia next month - Advice needed!:
Tasmyn,
Concerning you child care experience. I have been contacted by one of the restaurant owners here who needs help with his daughters little one. He's six months old and they have requested us to help with his care. I can give you his contact info if you e-mail me privately. I also do not believe he is the only need on Island in this area. My e-mail address is joeythompson777@aol.com

Saint Lucia: Electrical Work?:
Hello Becky,
Bobby is so right, Jobs are hard to come by here, but technical jobs, such as electrical service and repair is very much in demand. Wages, even for that are low, but again, owning your own business is the way to go. If your husband can troubleshoot and repair electrical pieces of equipment, then there's a place for him to make good money here. If all he does is run conduit and run wire, then probably not.
It would cost about 15K to establish a business here, plus a truck, used-10K and shipping tools in- another 8-10K.
Please let us know if we can help in any way.

Saint Lucia: Moving to SLU:
Hello Freddie,
Yours is one of the few occupations that stand an excellent chance of landing a job here. Not sure about pay, but I do know some chefs here make well in excess of 100k. Others not near that amount. I guess it all depends upon your skills, references, places of employment (as far as how well known it is) and schooling. This place is big on piece of paper, something I absolutely loath.
I would contact Chefs at every resort and restaurant on Island. Obtain their e-mail addresses and send them messages asking them to keep an ear out for an opening. Most Chefs here are more than willing to help a fellow mess hall man.
Let me know if I can help in any way......

Saint Lucia: Montessori School?:
No knowledge of that school or any school for that matter. We home school children. I'll do some research and see what I can find out about Montessori.
