Portugal: Immigration attorney:
Where in Portugal are you considering to move to? SEF in Lisbon does not have anyone fluent in English. If you are considering the Algarve (southern beach area) the SEF agents in Portimao speak English very well.
If you know you want to live here almost full time, from the beginning, do reach out, vial email works, to the Portuguese Consulate covering where you live. They will tell you exactly what you need to do.
Or you can try what we are doing. We came to Lisbon for three months & decided we wanted to stay longer. So, because of the 90 day limit on US visa. We scheduled an appointment at SEF for the week we returned from a quick visit back in theUS just a few days before our 90 days were up. At that time we applied for a 90 day visa extension, which allowed us to stay, but only within Portugal. That was OK for us, as there is much to explore here, and we wanted to be certain that we wanted to go thru the Residents permit process. Also, that 90 days counts as "away time" so that after our visit with family in US these next 2 weeks, when we return, we are on a new 90 day US visa & can travel everywhere.
While we are back in the US for the summer, we will complete the Residence Visa process. It is good to live here for a while to determine that we do really want to be here for more than 6 months a year.
Portugal: Android TV? Use it?:
We will be renting a condo with wi-fi and a TV with 4 channels. Our rental agent suggested android TV with its access to hundreds of stations including prime time US shows.
Has anyone used it? Does it work? In addition to buying the box, do you have to pay for programming? Have a referral for the Lagos/Luz area?
Thanks in advance!
Portugal: Anyone Apply for Residency Card while in Portugal?:
We are currently in Lisbon for 2.5 months and have decided that we want to apply for the Residency Permit/Card so that we can stay here longer than 6 months. We have communicated with the Portuguese Consulate in NJ and know the docs required for submission to them, only to be sent to SEF for approval.
Has anyone applied while here in Portugal? Is it possible? Any tips for us?
We did go to SEF, but since the agent spoke poor English and we don't have a good command of Portuguese yet, they encouraged us to just apply for the 90 day extension in Jan.
All suggestions are appreciated. Our plan is to live in Praia do Luz as of mid-December.
Spain: Retired expats from US?:
Have you considered Portugal? The cost of living is unbelievably affordable and you can fly or take mass transit to Spain as well as the rest of Europe vey inexpensively!
Portugal: Scouting trip to Portugal...help please?:
Prof Ben, my husband & I are coming down to Praia do Luz in the next 10 days to finalize a 6 month rental. We would love to meet you for a glass of wine to hear about your experiences. We are in Lisbon for 2.5 months & head back to US for a quick trip, than back to Luz.

Italy: Realtor in Rome for rental property?:
We are coming to Rome mid January for 3 months. Anyone recommend a local realtor to help us find a furnished one bedroom apartment?
