Italy: Taxes After Relocating to US for Dual Citizens?:

Another pesky tax question. Are there any tax obligations for dual citizens who return to the US after residing in Italy? Just trying to get clarity on this, as I know I will be required to file taxes in the U.S. and Italy once I establish residency in Italy and am in country more than 182 days. Thanks in advance.

Italy: Tax on U.S. Social Security:

Hi Doppio, I thought I read that the tax on SS was .02%. I must have mis-read or misinterpreted it. This comes as a blow.

Italy: Medicare, Part B:

Looking ahead, I'll be 65 next year and will incur a penalty unless I sign on Part B of Medicare. I met with someone at Social Security yesterday, who said the only way I can opt out of Park B and not be penalized is if I am working for an employer who is providing health insurance. (The Nat'l Health System in Italy doesn't qualify, nor does purchasing private insurance.) The penalty is pretty stiff - if out of the country for 1 year, it's a 10% penalty for the rest of my life. If out of the country for 5 years, it's a 50% penalty, and so on. Has anyone found a way around this? I will likely move back to the U.S. at some point in time -my son is here, but could be 1 year, 5 years, 10 years...who knows?

Italy: US Social Security and the Treaty.:

I don't know if this will help, but I met with someone at the SS office the other day - if you're collecting SS and earn more than $25K in a year, your SS payments are taxable in the U.S. I don't know how this jives with the article. My understanding is that SS is taxed in Italy by .02% (I read that somewhere on the forum.)

Italy: Amazon.it:

Curious to know if there are additional charges (such as VAT) added to items purchased on Amazon.it. For instance, if I wanted to buy a product that costs 8,99, with Amazon Prime, would 8,99 be the total charge? ) Thanks!

Italy: Good financial advisor before moving to Italy:

I spoke with Pat Smith at American Tax help, but don't think she knows the Italian side. A little pricey, but knowledgable. Does a free phone consult. Might be worth a chat.

Italy: Trieste, here I come!:

Ciao amici! Just a quick update! I just booked my flight and will be flying to Venice April! From there, will be taking a shuttle to Trieste. Thanks so much for all your help!

Italy: Best / Worst Airlines:

Finally getting ready to book my tickets! I'm looking into airfares beginning mid to late April. I'm planning to fly into Venice, then take a shuttle service (via ground) to Trieste. TAP has the best fares, thus far, but reviews are pretty sketchy. I've been planning on buying one way, but in some cases, r/t is much less expensive. Would love to hear from others re your experience with TAP and/or other airlines. I'll be flying from JFK, but perhaps that doesn't matter. Thanks much! Theresa

Italy: Self-employed in Italy:

Such a timely post! Thanks so much for the information!

Italy: Social Security:

Is anyone who is a dual citizen collecting social security? If so, are you paying taxes on your ss in Italy, the US or both? I've searched the forum for answers and the latest info I found was from 2015 - as things change, curious to know the current status as I'm thinking of applying for SS this year.
