As a tourist you can stay in Colombia for 180 days in a calander year maximum with the entry day and exit day counting as one each. If you are visiting between 2 different calander years, you must leave Colombia after 180 days consecutive.

Colombia: Once again taxes.:

Two different issues. Tourist can not stay in Colombia for more than 180 consecutive days (must leave with the arriving and departing days counting as 1 day each) and the law also states that a tourist can not exceed 180 days in country in a "calander" year so Jan. 1 does start a new period. The tax law states that a resident/visitor who stays in country for 183 days in any 365 day period is liable to pay taxes.

@Awalles. The US Embassy in Bogota provides the verification letter in spanish. Go to their website (link below), Federal Benifits unit, look under social security admin and you will find directions to get the benefits verification letter. It will be couriered to you in 5 business days. This is what Colombia Migracion is now requesting for TP 7 with US Social Security as pension, no apostille necessary. https://bogota.usembassy.gov/mobile/service/federal-benefits.html

Colombia: hotels in La Candelaria:

The only hotel that I'm familiar with in that area is Hotel Nutibara which is OK. It's definitely in the heart of Medellin. Most of the others that I've walked by offer 1 hr, 4 hr. and over night rates. Just make sure they change linens before you pay. If you like intercity grit especially at night, then stay there.
