South Africa: shipping:

No aerosols, flammables, corrosive or poisonous items. Other liquids ok BUT with all the handling going on would you want to risk damage and leakage over other items and through cartons? With the Rand at an all time low it actually may not be cheaper when you convert at around R24. 00 to the UK Pound !

South Africa: Salary of R750000 Gross per Anum ok to leave:

Hi. Yes that will be sufficient but be careful in which area you choose to live due to crime. Sandton will be best.

South Africa: Moving to JHB:

Best area and one of the safest (and probably most expensive) is Sandton. R1.2m per annum is competitive and should afford you a good lifestyle. The most important aspect of this "package" must be the medical aid (insurance) that goes with it.

South Africa: Moving to Johannesburg is it safe?:

Well I've been to Chennai and it's about as safe as there however Sandton is the best and safest area of Jo'burg BUT is very expensive and R24000.00 a month will not be enough for a family to live comfortably. You would have to look at Midrand which is also a safe area and about 20km away. You need a minimum of R32000.00 a month unless your Company is providing you with a car, medical aid and housing allowance.

South Africa: which application do i apply for?:

Hi there, Well I don’t want to disappoint you, but I think you should know you just cannot “walk” into SA based on a non relative supporting you. If your boyfriend and you decided to split, then you would be on the next plane out even if this type of non permanent relationship permit existed. Here are your options:- Relatives Permanent Residence Permit South Africa: if you’re a biological relative of a South African citizen or a foreigner with a South African permanent residence permit, then you qualify to apply for this type of permit. Children who are legally adopted also qualify. ( Probably your best bet to wait for your mother to obtain hers ) Spousal/Life Partner Permanent Residence Permit South Africa: if you’re married to or in a permanent relationship with a South African citizen or a foreigner with a South African permanent residence permit, then you qualify to apply for this permit. This category applies to both same-sex couples and those in heterosexual relationships. If applying for a permit in this category, it’s necessary to prove that you’ve been married or cohabitating for a minimum of five years. ( You have no proof ) Critical Skills Permanent Residence Permit South Africa: if you already hold a critical skills temporary work visa, can prove you have five years of experience in your field and have a permanent job offer in South Africa, you can apply for this type of permit. So your best bet will be to wait for your mother, failing which contact your nearest SA Embassy or Consul and ask them to give you the latest “Critical skills” list to check whether your profession is in this category. You will then need to contact the big hospital groups such as NETCARE and MEDICLINIC which you can Google and make contact with your CV. Whichever way you apply, SA Government Departments are notoriously slow and I can’t see you going anywhere for at least 6 months. Expect no end of frustrations along the way. In closing, quite frankly people are starting to get out of this Country as the infrastructure that was World Class is falling apart thanks to 20 years of corruption and neglect by the ANC. Why do you think there are “Critical Skills” shortages ?........because these people have all left the Country for UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada to name a few thanks to this and “Reverse discrimination” that is practised in the workplace. Regards

South Africa: sugest me roaming free sim card during word tour:

Very easy as they are for sale in all the major supermarkets for USD 0.20c and then you buy airtime at the tills. Suggest VODACOM as they have the best coverage. DO NOT buy Cell C !

South Africa: Buying car & auto insurance in Cape Town:

You can get most cars here as in Europe but they are expensive. Audi A4 new would cost you around the equivalent of £24,000.00. A more run of the mill type small car around £8,500.00.You WILL need a/c ! Auto insurance is easy to obtain but bring a recommendation/No Claims letter with you from your previous company. Petrol = £0.80 litre at the moment. If you buy a second hand car then best to buy from a dealer and not a private person. Cars only need an "MOT" when they change hands so be carefull and make sure they have FSH and no rust if they originate from the coastal areas

South Africa: lady staying in Johannesburg:

Sorry but by "secured" do you mean safe enough? It's the same as any city in the World, there are good and bad parts so would need more details to advise you.

South Africa: What I can do with this offer there?:

That's pretty good money for S.A. especially with medical aid (health insurance) but you need to ask what plan they will give you. Some are just hospital plans that only cover the hospital & surgeons cost and not dentist and GP costs, X-rays etc. You should live quite comfortably.Try and get accommodation in "Sandton"

South Africa: American Architect moving to Johannesburg:

Hi. I presume you have gone to the SAIA webpage - www.saia.org.za? Please remember that nowadays the SA Govt requires opportunities to be given to "previously disadvantaged citizens" so it may not be that easy. Good luck
