Panama: Moving family to El Valle - questions!:

Anyone living in the El Valle area (El Valle De Anton) help With some questions? My wife and I have been exploring Panama for almost three weeks and feel that El Valle may very well be the place for us! We're thinking of moving our family there in the next 24-36 months. * Anyone know a reliable real-estate pro that could help us find a suitable rental? Our family has five members (two parents + three kids ages 3 to 10) * What is the weather like year-round in El Valle? (It was beautiful today) * What is the doctor/medical/dental scene like in El Valle? * Where do you do your grocery shopping? There were quite a few small stores and a nice looking REY in town...are those sufficient or do you find yourself driving for some things? * What are the rental rates like? Compared to other areas in Panama? * How good is the produce? Nice fresh veggies and fruits in the markets/stands? * How reliable are utilities and Internet? * Do the roads in ever become a problem? * Crime? We've felt totally safe almost everywhere we've been in Panama. * How is the expat community and how do the locals feel about/treat expats? * There was a great flea-market going on in town today, how often do they do that? * How are the costs of living? Utilities, groceries, basic goods, etc? * School options? How about Spanish language learning options (we speak very little Spanish but want to learn)? * Does it get windy or overly-rainy in El Valle (it was crazy windy in Las Tablas/Pedasi while we were there and extremely rainy in Volcan/Boquete as we visited that side of the country). * How are the real-estate prices? Especially if renting. Cheaper in town or outside of town? Are there any other areas that might be considered "suburbs" or in close proximity to El Valle that we should consider...perhaps some that are more affordable than El Valle itself? * Any other advice for us in considering El Valle...anything we should consider before making a commitment? Thanks a TON in advance!! ??????????????

Vietnam: Moving my family for a mini-retirement:

Hello all! I am considering a mini-retirement (6 to 8 months) and wonder if anyone has some insights on a few questions: - Does anyone have any recommendations on a trustworthy and dependable real-estate agent that we could pay to help us find a house to rent? - What are the areas of the country that you would recommend? Low crime, reasonably affordable, and outside of the big cities would be a must. We'd like to be within a 15-30 minute drive of a nice beach (or closer if possible), and would prefer our home to be somewhat secluded if that is at all feasible. Are there areas like this in this country? - What would be the biggest 3 or 4 adjustments that we'd have to make moving up out of the states (we live currently in Utah)? - What is the housing like in this country? We'd be looking to rent a full house...large enough for 7 people (2 adults and 5 children) and I'm wondering if these types of homes are easy to find for rent. - I would be able to tele-commute for work, so I'd need reliable high-speed internet? Would this be available in the places recommended? - How hard is it to get a Visa or temp. residence permit? - What could we expect by way of living expenses? Rent, food, etc. About how much less would the cost of living be as compared with the U.S.? - How critical would it be to learn the language? Is it possible to get around with English? - Is crime anything we'd want to be concerned about (more than here in the states, for example)? - We're considering a number of countries: Panama, Belize, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Thialand, Cambodia, and perhaps Vietnam. Any insights into the pro's vs. con's of any of these? Thanks a ton in advance!
