El Salvador: Overstayed Passport:
Hey guys does anyone have any information about overstayed passports in El Salvador?
Currently I am in Guatamala and I will be paying a fine of Q10 a day for my overstay in CA-4. I have heard El Slavador will not recognize it and will charge me another $114 to leave. Anything would help.
Guatemala: Guate Residency:
Hey guys I am starting the paper work for temp residency. Seems fairly straight forward but I didn't know if anyone wanted to share issues they encountered.
Also, I heard there is a fine for Q10 a day for expired tourists visas. Any word on this?
Thanks

Hey so I recommend exchanging here. One so you will get a better rate and two you have the option to open a USD account. My wife and I have two accounts with Bank Industrial, one in Q's the other in USD. Although all bank visits here in Antigua are slow they have good customer service and their transfer rates are competitive. I make transfers to a US account every month. And as far as I know there are three options.
1) Bank to bank wire,
2) Money Gram or Western Union
3)Paypal
Bank Industrial will charge a $15 and my US account will charge another $20 to receive the funds. A bit cheaper then a third party cash wire such as money gram. Paypal has proved the best the past 2 months.
PayPal:
What I highly recommend is to bring some USD opening a USD account here. Connect both your new USD Guate account and your US account to separate Paypal accounts. Add money to your "Guate Paypal" account. Simply make the transfer to your "US Paypal" as if you are buying something. The "seller" or the Paypal account receiving the funds will accrue a small fee. The largest fee for us has been about $6.
Withdrawing from Paypal:
Once your US Paypal has received the funds (usually instantly) a withdrawal to you US bank is necessary (about 3 business days). At first you will see a monthly limit of $500. However, after you verify the Paypal account using your SS# or tax ID your withdrawal amount will become unlimited. (only necessary to verify with US Paypal)
FYI:
If you want to withdraw funds to a non-US bank you are limited to $500 a month. It is possible to raise it but I believe you have to buy Paypal Plus.
Hope this helps.
Guatemala: Living Abroad Taxes:
Hey guys, I am looking for some advise about living abroad and paying US taxes to keep the IRS off my back.
Currently I am not claiming any income and traveling in Guatemala on a tourism visa. I plan to stay that way for this entire tax year. Does anyone have a similar experience or any advise about paying a minimum to keep the IRS at bay?
Anything helps!
Global Expat Forum: Traveling for a Year and Taxes:
Hey guys,
I am currently traveling abroad throughout central america. I am traveling cheaply by using money I have saved up or earned at a very small level. I will have nothing to claim for the 2015 tax year. What is the protocol when it comes to US taxes in this situation? Is there a minimum tax I must pay to keep the IRS off my back? Appreciate any help/advise!
