Italy: Best Place to Live in Italy:
I have wondered at the Apulia area
Hungary: Enough of Orban:
2. No free busses (tesco)
I do not understand this? Do you mean the shopping baskets? They already cost well you rent since you get your coin back.
Italy: residency:
So if you have unearned income ie US Social Security Disability you have to pay taxes on it? That seems odd as you do not in USA or other EU countries.
If you are a residency in Italy you are not allowed to travel or leave Italy at all for any amount of time? So if one lives in Italy and you travel to visit UK for a few days you give up your Italy residence?
These sound odd to me, but i would like to know if this is true.
Hungary: Moving back home to the 'ol USA!:
Why are you moving back to USA? What happened? What made you move back there instead of going to a different country in EU? I am just curious as you seemed so happy here in Hungary!
Hungary: return to hungary:
I am an american born in usa and i moved to Hungary with my father who is also an american born in usa and a US Navy veteran.
I am NOT caucasian and neither is my father. We are black americans. We have no family or friends here in Hungary. We only speak USA english.
Now we are not Jewish although many both in usa and here think i am. I am not sure exactly why. When we rented our flat here in Budapest the real estate pointed out all the synagogues in the area near our flat! he hee
Well let me clarify that, I do not go to synagogue and am not part of any Jewish community. Racially i am part Ashkenazi jewish. I have never gone to any church at all and never been baptized or what they do to kids at catholic church, christianized or something? I never went to any church growing up or as an adult.
I do not eat pork(which is their favorite food here in Hungary for some reason!) and i am aware of how to eat kosher and live a kosher lifestyle. And i honestly know more of the Torah than i do any of the other religions of the book.
So i can not say how it is to be Jewish in Hungary. I can say how racism is as far a the standpoint of being a black person and one that i not christian.
That said i would say racism is much much less here in Budapest and the small amount of travel we have done in Hungary since being here.
Feel free to pm me personally for any questions.
Hungary: residency visa for my partner:
"I wouldn't bother with a 1 year one though as you ed up going through the entire process again in 9 months. You have to initiate renewals 90 days before they expire. "
Yes it is a hassle but for USA people that is all you get the first time around! We thought we would get 3yrs, asked them at immigration how long to put on the application they said 3yrs, talked to the woman making the decision and she even asked us what would we be doing in Hungary over the next 3yrs ie would we be buying a house, made us write a statement saying we were going to do that in that time frame. Then when we went to get our residence permit were told ALL USA people only get 1yr!
So yes this is true we have to reapply in about 8, 9 months. But the good thing is they state we should not have to resubmit things that have not changed. So the renewal should go easier.
I think once they approve you once and not much changes then renewal should be smoother and quicker. I mean since we stated within 3yrs we would try buy a house then it should not be a surprise 8 months later we are still trying.
But i would still do it and i am glad my father and i are here. And from reading about how EU may suspend the visa free 90 day thing i would suggest most people get out of USA and over here while you still can.
Hungary: Cheap Healthcare Policy for USA Expats?:
My father who is 58 and me who is 35 are moving to Hungary end of next week. One thing i am having a hard time finding is cheap healthcare policy.
We do not need an expensive plan just something to fulfill the Residence Permit.
(We are going to apply for residence permit for other reasons. He is retired and gets SSD and i am his caregiver. Neither one of us will be working in Hungary nor have family there)
If anyone has any ideas let me know?
Thanks
Hungary: address:
well can you get your residence permit to stay in Hungary for 1yr with a hotel address?
and then when you rent or own a place get your address card?
Hungary: dual citizen considering a move:
I hope shipping is much less than that! We are only taking books, some clothes and few small items and our tv. I have to figure out shipping costs but i praying it is not 24k!
We have a car here in US but i was thinking we sale it and buy one over there. But then i am hearing non citizens can not own a car? Do you think long term rental would work?
Hungary: Moving back to California from Hungary:
Thanks for posting this info!
I am moving from St Petersburg, FL USA to Hungary next summer. Moving companies was one big question we have so if you say these people are reliable then i will give them a call also.
We have things we are going to take without question but many iffy stuff also depending on costs. We are going to be in a much bigger place when in Hungary than here so we will have room to take most everything we own but we are not rich so cost is an issue.
