Ecuador: Why are you moving? Expectations?:
I have been interested in some of the articles posted recently. Oh, yes, we are in our 4th year in Cotacachi, Ecuador. Many questions and comments reflect the need for Gringo interaction and Gringo needs. So, just why are you considering a move to Ecuador?
It is most important to examine why you are moving AND your expectations. Climate, economy, medical care, food, better life? After considering all of these, please remember, you are about to become part of a completely different culture. AND, it is THEIR culture. You and I are GUESTS of this culture. What a beautiful experience these past years have been.
You can absolutely move here with no expectations, planning to live here inexpensively, and have only Gringos for friends, watch Direct TV, eat at Gringo restaurants, etc.
No matter the reason for a move, expectations, considered or not, will need always to be balanced with the sweet people here and their culture . This beautiful place is, for sure, not the United States, just in another location.

Ecuador: banks:
We have lived in Ecuador three years, have a bank account here and one in the States. I think it is wise to have Social Security direct deposited to your US bank account, then just write a check on that account to deposit it in your account here. Some banks require a few days for your check to clear, just need to plan ahead. This is a no cost method of moving funds here. Duke
Ecuador Welcome Forum: COFFEE LOVERS:
Lots of good advice for good coffee. For great coffee, Rio Intag gets my vote. Grown locally just a few miles from Cotacachi, local coffee/espresso, 100% Arabiga Organico..
