Mexico: HIV Med Costs/Health Insurance:
And some meds, such as pain meds, are almost impossible to obtain in Mexico. Who knows how the Mex govt. classifies HIV meds. A good pharmacist or physician should be able to explain.
Mexico: Mail to PO Box:
There is International Express Mail through the Mexico post office, which is traceable and should be reliable. Medicines Mexico uses this service to deliver meds to U.S. locations.
However, as a CPA, I suggest you call the state tax commission and ask for a physical address to use. (You could possibly Google this, but a phone call will insure you get the most current information.).
Mexico: high speed internet in chapala:
Depends on what you call high speed and your neighbourhood. We got 3 mbps in Chula Vista . Norte, and 7 mbps in Riberas. Which goes to show that Internet quality bears no correlation to the quality of the streets or other infrastructure (like septic vs. public sewer)
Mexico: Ajijic Questions:
You may be correct in that the streets in Ajijic's official boundaries are nearly all cobblestone, but nearby in Riberas del Pilar, that isn't the case - many if not most of the streets are deteriorating gravel or dirt. However, still a great area and it is easy to adapt to this inconvenience.
I always flush paper down the toilet. I can't figure out how the pipes can handle a big load of poop, but a the little bit of paper would be a problem. Plus I can't break the natural habit of dropping the paper where the poop falls, and it's just unsanitary and makes the bathroom sink. However, only a few public restrooms have the signs, but it is common to see a trashcan next to the toilet.j
Mexico: Temporary vehicle registration:
Is it not possible to bring a vehicle without plates into northern Baja? Aduanas gave us a really hard time, and California is making us wait several months before they will issue the plates, due to the age of the vehicle.
Mexico: Car with temporary registration:
Took delivery of a car on Tuesday in California,. It was shipped from Indiana and has no plates. We obtained a temporary registration in California and drove it to Rosarito on Friday. Aduanas gave us a really hard time about having no plates. Because we live in Rosarito, they eventually allowed us in,, but told us that the vehicle cannot reenter Mexico until it has plates. Problem is that due to the age of the vehicle (1981), California dmv requires verification of the vin by CHP, and they won't do that and issue the plates until June.
So who has the most ridiculous red tape - California for requiring a vin verification and taking 3 months to do it, or Mexico for denying entry to a temporary registration granted while waiting on California's ridiculously slow process?
Mexico: Who here is heading to Lake Chapala area?:
In response to the repetitive question, the financial requirements are pretty low. If you have enough to live on in Mexico (without work) you probably meet the financial requirements.
Mexico: Effects of policies of new administration on lives of expats living in Mexico?:
I think border areas (like here in Rosarito) will likely see an influx of crime, as Trump says he will deport criminal illegals first, before he focuses on deporting the many other illegals.. There also will be a job shortage (or actuality an over-supply of job seekers) in the border areas, as the U.S.. takes people to the neatest border crossing and puts them out on the streets of Tijuana, Ciudad Juarez, etc.
Perhaps this is sheer speculation, but it sure seems likely.
Mexico: U.S. 800 numbers:
Is there a way to dial U.S. 800 numbers from Mexico, other than via Wi-Fi calling via a cell phone?. My Wi-Fi calling feature is very cantankerous, difficult to activate when needed, and Sprint hasn't figured out why.. Many companies will only provide a "toll-free" number that I can't always dial, whereas I can always dial a regular "toll" number for free.
Mexico: U.S. 800 numbers:
What are the options for calling U.S. 800 numbers from Mexico? On my cell phone I can only dial U.S. 800 numbers when on Wi-Fi calling. But Wi-Fi calling has always been very erratic and does not always work. Furthermore, I haven't found a way to call these numbers from a land line, or when I'm not within Wi-Fi range. And some companies I must talk to only provide "toll-free" numbers, and not a "toll" number that I could dial for free. Very frustrating.
