Philippines: Moving to the Philippines:
I am a Canadian male who has been living in Colombia for the last 7 years and has grown tired and needs a change. Looking at the Philippines, possibly Cebu and wondering if anyone has thoughts and suggestions. Prices to rent a one or 2 bedroom place furnished, Only serious need is good Internet and power. I ave heard that you can only stay for 1 month at a time and then you have to leave for 3 days and return for another month, are there any other options? Let me know your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you!

Colombia: health:
Hello Zelia, I tend not to say too much on this forum but I feel I must in this case. Regarding health Insurance, CYA! I did not and still like a fool do not have insurance, but 11 days in Hospital de Kennedy cost me just over 10.000.000 COP. They lost the results of the first tests and so I waited for 8 days until they finally decided to do more tests because they could not find the results from the first ones. During my wonderful stay, there was a total of 6 people who died in my room. I know Kennedy is not a good hospital here, but it is where the ambulance took me and a weird thing here in Colombia is that you can not leave the hospital until you pay. Being single with no living family here or elsewhere made it very difficult to accomplish this. So, again this is just my opinion and my simple brush with the medical system here but CYA. By the way, I was diagnosed with cancer and told I needed immediate surgery; that was 2 years ago and I am still above ground. Be very careful what you hear and even more to what you listen to. kj
Colombia: Canadian Visa?:
I am sorry but all the Canadian bashing is not called for! If I was back in Canada, with a Colombian lady and we wanted to travel to Mexico, it would be the same thing, she would need a US visa in order to travel to Mexico. As an American or a Canadian we would not need a visa, but your lady is not from Canada or The USA, so it is just simple math. Besides, if Canada is so terrible why would you want to travel through it to get to Alaska anyway? sorry, just a Canadian here, blame Canada, after all we were stupid enough to let you buy it from the Russians in the first place. Have a GR8 day eh! I wish you and your lady well in your journey.
Colombia: Stepchildren:
Okay so I am a little slow. I lived with a Colombian lady for just over a year. She has 2 children, a daughter 24 and a son 12. She told me she had been alone for 11 years, not true. She would often feign anger and lock me out of the house, it was not until after a year of this I talked to the son and found out the reason she locked me out was she was sleeping with her X. Sorry but I am out of here! What a joke. The men feel they have rights to conjugal visits anytime they like even if the woman is in another relationship and the women are totally okay with it. This is one of the many things here in Colombia that I simple do not understand and yes, merezco mas de esto.
Colombia: Maximum stay in Colombia?:
Well, many things have changed since I first came here 6.5 years ago. With DAS I was given 3 months first thing, but then I had to return to DAS every month for the next 3 months and pay a fee each month. The last time I entered Colombia with my passport, I was given 3 months and then told I could report directly to Immigration and pay a fee to stay for my maximum 180 days in a calendar year. If you are looking for the maximum stay I recommend that you enter after July 1, then you can stay until the year end, leave for 24 hours and come back and stay for 6 months of the next year. The other option to consider is to go into Ecuador, they had a very easy application process for residency and once the process is started you have 99 years to complete it so basically you are granted residency without the papers. It allows you to stay or go as you please. Ecuador has a pretty easy cross the border policy with Colombia. Just my 2 cents worth.
Colombia: Teaching english in Colombia?:
Hello, well here goes nothing! I teach English here. I am from Canada and have been here for 6 years. You can find many private English schools here that will pay about 25.000 pesos per hour. The students pay for 2 hours of classes but they only get 1.5 hours of class. You get paid for 1.5 hours and you spend a lot of time in transportation going from one class to another. There are some places where you work inside their office and the pay is the same. I would recommend those over the others.
Working in a University or a school will get you between 1.2 and 2.000.000 pesos a month. If you go to the bilingual schools in the North of Bogota you might get 2.5 Mil/month.
But, be very careful as many schools here are not on the up and up. I have worked for a total of 3 different businesses/schools here and not been paid.
If you are interested in more info., send me a PM and I will see what I can do to help you understand where to go and where not to go. Blessings.
Venezuela: Looking at moving back to Venezuela:
Canadian male, looking at moving back to Venezuela. I lived in San Cristobal for 14 months and fell in love with the place and the people. No matter where I go my heart is still there, however. . . . What are the hazards, now with Maduro and what is it like to get residency there. Any and all thoughts welcome, even the ones that tell me I am crazy to consider going back. Bring it. . . . . . . . .
Colombia: Two Visa Questions:
If you arrive in July you can stay for 6 months in that given year and then 6 months for the proceeding year as stated. I used to skip across the border to Venezuela to have my passport show I was in Venezuela for 3 months and then skip back in to Colombia, but Maduro has blocked that now as you are only allowed 3 months a year in Venezuela now.
Contact Emma Pauola at Immigration in Bogota for questions, she is on the 4th floor and very helpful, but for visas there is another location and at this time I cannot remember the address. I will see if I can find it for you.
Good luck and remember Latin American women are VERY different from NA women, and we are very different from Latin American men and some women here want to change everything about us. Be careful and have lots of fun.
Colombia: Confused and lost in Colombia:
Robbed, lost all documents money and clothes. Lived on the streets for just over 2 months. Arrived in Bogota to seek help from the Canadian Embassy and they would not even open the doors because I had no original documents. Trying to find work teaching English here and there is lots of work but they do not like to pay. No money no new passport. IDEAS?
