Global Expat Forum: US expat to be: Have electronics, where can I go?:
We have numerous special electronics that we need to bring with us, eventually. We have found that we get inspired about the possibilities of one country, only to find out that we will have to pay a huge IVA/VAT/Import duty in order to bring/ship our stuff. We need these items for work, and we are not yet wealthy. What I am trying to find is a country that doesn't have a problem with this type of thing. Keep running into roadblocks. Many of these items are not going to be able to be carried on a plane. Any help with ideas for country possibilities would be much appreciated.
Panama: Moving to Panama with specialty electronics:
Hello and thank you for your time. We are planning to try out Panama, and are not sure yet what Visa we may qualify for. So for now, assume tourist. Problem: we need certain electronics for our professions and passions. Examples: Electronic keyboard with sound system, computer with multiple monitors, old/classic records, smaller electronics. Previously we were intrigued by Ecuador and Uruguay, but learned that bringing/importing those items would lead to all sorts of expensive problems. We are in the U.S., so same power system, however recently read here that electronics can get fried even when you have a surge protector. Completely understand the concept about getting rid of all the "stuff", but we really cannot afford to try to buy all this again, plus we will need it for work. Can any of you, with your exceptional experience, advise on how to proceed? Thinking of Boquete area FYI. Again, thanks.
Ecuador: importing electronics tax?:
Hello, and thank you in advance for your help.
I am trying to find accurate and up to date information regarding taxes/duties put on importing electronics to Ecuador. This would be for personal use but for a home business, therefore it might be more/more frequent than a typical person would need. I have seen posts regarding this but they were old and involved bringing things on the plane trip down. I am referring to online purchases, i.e., printer, computer monitor, etc.
Chile: Imports/electronics:
Hello,
Can someone please tell me what the import taxes are in Chile for electronics? After hearing about the 60% tax on importing electronics in Uruguay, I am looking at other options. My business necessitates that I am able to be able to do this, so I have little choice.
Thanks very much for your help and time.
Uruguay: electronics import tax:
Is it correct that there is a tax of 60% on electronics that I would import? I have been researching Uruguay and never saw this anywhere, but recently I have seen it a couple times. Is this true? All over the country? Something new?
Thanks for any help. There is so little available online about this.
