Nicaragua: Scaremongering, or...?:
1--indians don't matter, they are a small number of people living in an obscure part of Nic that is more important foreigners who have never been here than to the Nicaraguans. I don't have any beef with the Indians, its just the way it is. If the govmint sent enough troops in to protect everyone in every desolate swamp the Indians and foreigners would be screaming "invasion".
2-- regional autonomy is a crock of commie stuff. I hope for Nic's sake then can undo it in some reasonable manner before it gets too enshrined like American Indian reservations.
3-- Danny is a world class brilliant opportunist and the great procurer general. And when he dies his brilliant wife will continue his work.
4 The world will always give to Nic because Nic is so needy and the foreign rubes are so dumb.
5--the comparative handful of people being dispossessed (?) by the invisible canal are getting screwed because they will be paid based on assessed value rather than marked value. I hope this gets changed, the govmint or the chinaman need to be a little more generous and politic.
6-- in my humble opinion, Nic has less chance of civil war than does the US.
Nicaragua: San Juan Del Sur Hotel by the beach.:
booking.com may give you an idea of who is sod out.
Nicaragua: Relocation to Jinotega:
For a mountain town jinotega is level and the weather is cool by tropical standards. You can do a search online to see average temps for many towns, and jinotega will be among the coolest, with sweaters advised in the winter.
Living in the countryside is a challenge for the young and healthy, not a great option for elders living alone.
Nicas tend to be very courteous to strangers and the aged, so you will get some courtesies and help you might not be expecting.
Nicaragua: Best places for single senior citizen on a budget:
If you are tight with your money you can get by, until illness or family emergency pops up.
Your main enemy will be boredom. Hi probability the local culture will bore you to tears, so bring your own entertainment.
Met a guy on a low disability budget. He had been here 7 years, says he lost, gave away or had robbed from him everything he had brought down with him, He was doing fine, riding a bicycle and borrowing books in English from a local hospedaje. With today's technology you can play on the internet for peanuts.
Give it a try, if it doesn't work out you can always go home.
Nicaragua: Another of so many narcotics questions:
I emphasize. A relative has a good friend who takes pain killers so he can work to 65. The VA cut him off for politics so now he buys the same drug at $20 a pill on the street.
If you think capitalist medicine is bad, wait till you see socialist!
Various sources, including a relative going to med school here, says narcotics are almost impossible to get. Although there is a thriving drug trade, it is for recreational drugs, not prescription meds.
Nicaragua: Yellow Fever Vaccination:
I suspect the new scrutiny is because of the illegal aliens coming up from Brazil. It would be a humongous disaster if they contaminated the Nic. zancudos.
we went to Minsa in mga . If you say you are going to Cd. P and other safe areas, they wave the shot. If you say you are going to the junge, you get the shot.
In my case they said it is standard to wave the shot for those over 60 and gave me a Constancia to that effect.
YF vaccines are now considered good for life. If you had one don't worry. If you lost the yellow tikkee, you may have to go some other route like getting the shot again.
Yup, another govmint program--if you legally reside here, you get the shot if you have need. If not, pay cash.
From what we understood from Minsa, my wife will need the shot to go to Colombia, but if she wusses out we will just go to Chile.
25% get minor pain symptoms, a couple dozen per million get hospitalized or dead from the shot.
Nicaragua: Are my prescriptions available:
I've generally found my third world doctors in Nic to be head and shoulders above my third world doctors in the US, especially the ones at the VA.
Most meds are available or a substitute can be found. Prices are all over the board, but often the retail price is near the same as the copay in the US. Shop around, things go in and out of stock and prices between brands can be extreme. Buy in advance, especially if you live in a cow town
Nicaragua: Which C.A. country is best to live in?:
Short answer:
None of the above.
If you don' have family, property, a business or a church mission, you have no reason to be here.
"I want a little adventure" lasts for 4 months tops. Seeing pretty sunsets is fun, but for how long?
I never mention alcoholics, because they are truly blessed to be happy anywhere, so they are not Nic specific.
Nicaragua: WOW:
I can't comment on this post because I have a long-standing policy of NEVER reading a paragraph of more than 3/4 inch.
