Portugal: Need to work in Portugal!:
My name is Robert Döbereiner Pohl, a 42 y.o. European citizen living in São Paulo, Brazil. My mother was a diplomat and can I speak fluent English, Portuguese and Spanish, in addition to communicating in both German and French. I studied Law, Int'l. Marketing and am currently studying Anthropology.
Twenty two years ago I lived in Portugal and met this teen-age girl. We dated for a while but, as I moved elsewhere, we lost contact. Last week I got her phone nr. and dared call her. She's now 38, divirced, and It felt like we had never been away from each other. I now intend to move to Portugal and build a life with her, but for that I need a job.
In over 10 years I developed a solid career in the Pharmaceutical industry (Bayer, Byk, Rhodia and Novartis) managing congresses&events. Later, working as Int'l. Relations Mgr., I dealt with more commercial meetings and exhibits, thus expanding my knowledge on both sides of the negotiating table world-wide. More recently I also acquired expertise in handling language schools and became a partner of one.
I have worked for The Chase Manhattan Bank in Rio and have good references from my former American employer. My own sister is married to an American top researcher and lives happily in Connecticut. Also, from my time in Rio, I am familiar with the informal and gentle strength associations such as yours have, and know that the American community in Lisbon may be a good place to seek work. I have no restrictions whatsoever regarding working there since I too am an European.
Could anyone, please, give me any tips on finding employment among Americans/foreigners there? Travelling is no object and I can be there in no time. I am not picky... all I really need is an opportunity!
I thank you very much in advance for any help on this matter.
Sincerely yours,
Robert
