Thailand: How can I get a Thai retirement visa ??:

See http://thaiembdc.org/consular-services/non-immigrant-visas/non-immigrant-category-o/ It appears to me that you can apply to the Thai Consulate in Washington as the "Eligibility" section states "4. Having the nationality of or residence in the country where applicant’s application is submitted." So, you have the "nationality of...the country where applicant's application is submitted". The biggest issue is that you would be without your passport for 3-4 weeks.

Thailand: US Madicare:

Medicare website should be explored. Generally, if you live overseas, you are NOT covered by Medicare (with some exceptions for temporary travel medical emergencies). Cigna has several good plans for international expats.

Thailand: U.S. Marine moving to Hui Hin:

Hi Ron! You got some good info from kickballtrick. I plan on retiring to the Hua Hin area within the next two years...could be tomorrow if they really piss me off at work. Was in Hua Hin last September and hope to visit again this year. Will look you up if I do to see how its going. Semper Fi from an Army guy (66-72, RVN, 336th Assault Helicopter Co.)

Thailand: Considering Thailand:

Hey Clarkee....just depends on the life-style that you are looking for. If you're looking for a beach with lots of tourists, look at Pataya (cheap, new condos for rent), Phuket and Koh Samui. Quieter beaches can be found in Hua Hin and further south. I'm planning on retiring in Thailand in two years. Will rent for 1-yr on a beach and if not happy with the locale, try another place for a year. Much cooler summers in the north in Chang Mai or Chang Rai. Great food, good beer, night life, and friendly people.

Thailand: Thai Taxes for Money Earned Outside Thailand:

I am planning to retire in Thailand and secure a long-term furnished rental. But, I also plan to do consulting work outside of Thailand. Will I be required to pay Thai taxes on monies earned outside Thailand?
