Marriage exemption certificate requirements

New Topic Newest First

One of the requirements for obtaining a marriage exemption is "affidavit sworn by both husband and wife stating that they share a matrimonial home in jamaica. This must be certified by a justice of the peace"

To me this language sounds like they want just one affidavit signed by both my husband and myself, but I want to be sure they do not require two separate affidavits (one from each of us). Can someone please let me know if they have already gone through this process? I have had no luck reaching the ministry of labour by telephone.
Thanks

Hi,
That is correct, only one is needed signed by the both of you.

Thanks. Have you done this process before?

Yes, we did it earlier this year.

Great. I read on someone else's post there was also a marriage interview? Did you have to do this?

No interview per se, but depending on how you are perceived you can be hassled at the Labor ministry or the passport office.... especially the passport office. I speak from experience. No matter though, you will be ok if all of your papers are in order.

There is no interview, at least not for us. But the immigration officer processing the paperwork at the passport office did ask my wife to put in writing her purpose for moving to Jamaica.

Try to get to the ministry of labour office as early as possible, since you guys will have take voucher to NCB bank to make the payment. The line up at the bank is usually long on any given day, so it may take a while. When you get through with the bank you return to the ministry to complete the process. Afterwards you go to the passport office.

The interview is NOT a part of the Marriage Exemption process but as part of the "Extension of Stay", which the Marriage Exemption is required as part of the EoS.
