What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?

Take your time. Don't compare it to your current home in the US. If you compare, compare it to others in your similar situation (income, family status, lifestyle). If you would like to take public transportation, which is very popular, economical, and practical in Europe, be sure to live near a bus/train stop. (Continue)

Knielingen (lived there as a child) is a quiet "suburb" of Karlsruhe located very close in, but without all the traffic/noise in K'ruhe. You might find a very nice apt there.

Do you have any advice or thoughts about culture shock you would like to share?

Don't fight it. Expect it. It doesn't matter how well you know the culture, knowing it and living in it are two wholly different things. It does get better, you have to wait it out. Having someone who is going through the same thing helps a lot! Good Luck! (Continue)
