Description/Job Summary
The Tours Manager will oversee the planning and execution of sightseeing and newcomer orientation tours offered through the USO.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Plan, Develop and Execute Tours Programs: Research tour destinations and create itineraries; coordinate with agencies and offices as necessary; calculate tour prices to ensure profitability; request and respond to bids for services (buses, hotels, restaurants, local tour guides, etc); ensure tour rosters are tracked and maximum participation is achieved and controlled; announce tours to the appropriate Security Forces to ensure safety and security of travelers; hire, train and organize tour guides; monitor tour feedback from participants, resolving problems and making program adjustments as necessary
- Market Tours: Research, write, edit and submit tour descriptions for publication in Discover magazine; maintain accurate and current marketing materials on hand for distribution; conduct radio interviews to advertise upcoming tours of the community
- Track Costs and Monitor Financial Results: Monitor and approve all expenditures related to tours, including tour guide costs; manage petty cash fund including reconciliation and reimbursement; record and submit monthly data including statistics on sales, gross profit and customer volume; maintain and audit all reports
- Maintain Vehicles: Manage the upkeep of USO vehicles used for tours; train current and prospective tour drivers on safety, and procedures for emergency situations; track and report fuel usage
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of the local area and travel destinations and activities required; travel agent or tours management experience a plus
- Must have excellent communication skills, and be conversant in German; must be comfortable in public speaking
- Experience required managing a budget and managing vendors; experience managing vendors in a European country a plus
- Experience managing and directing a staff required
- Must be fully proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Must have clean driving record, and be able to drive 8 passenger van when necessary
- Must be able to lift and move 30 lbs. boxes
Details
The Tours Manager will provide tours services to the Manheim and Heidelberg Military Communities. Only local candidates will be considered. To qualify, candidates must have SOFA status or be otherwise eligible to work in the region.
The Tours Manager will work approximately 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The Tours Manager will be required to work an evening or weekend shift occasionally, based on tour scheduling.
