In-country Non-profit Coordinator-Guatemala

In- country coordinator for a small non-profit based in the US, focusing on literacy in children ages 5-10 in Guatemala. Education experience and fluency in English and Spanish a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Monitor and evaluate effectiveness of Open Books, Open Minds Literacy Program

- Design and administer student assessments — before and after school year

- Maintain student database and longitudinal data

- Maintain technology equipment and resolve technology issues

- Provide regular reports to U.S. team

- Serve as Controller for GLXi in Guatemala

- Maintain a documented system of accounting

- Financial statements

- General ledger

- Payroll

- Manage GLXi bank account in country

- Disburse teacher salaries

- Provide monthly reports

- Facilitate transfer of money between countries

- Assist with identification of partner schools and teachers

- Develop and maintain current contacts, including in Ministry of Education and other governmental branches or associations which could assist GLXi

- Evaluate content and relevancy of future programs

- All other duties that may be assigned to from time to time by GLXi

Qualifications:

Skills/Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate:

- Desire and commitment to improve the lives of children in Guatemala, especially those in poverty

- Belief in GLXi mission

- Computer literacy: proficient in Word, Excel, and some productivity/communication tools

- Financial and accounting experience

- Experience with database management

- In-country knowledge of people, language, culture

- Ability to work independently and with little supervision

- Experience as IT coordinator and/or with computer technology

- Detail-oriented

- Structured and organized thinker and communicator

- Work in a timely and responsive manner

Tools Required:

- Computer with the Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)

- Communication tools (and connectivity): internet, skype, email account

- Phone access

- Transportation to schools and courier shipping facilities

Responsibilities:

Specific Responsibilities:

- Create and maintain student assessment database

- Manage financial transactions in country and provide accounting

- Manage receipt of device shipments, when applicable, including customs clearance

- Manage process of charging station including ensuring access to electricity when necessary

- Manage technology-related issues such as breakage, malfunction or assistance with technology training
