Vietnam Study Abroad Site Director
The CIS Vietnam Site Director (SD) is a part time contracted position (roughly 10-15 flexible and varying hours per week) responsible for the quality and success of the CISabroad and CISaustralia programs offered in Vietnam.
Ho Chi Minh City
The SD is responsible for assisting all CIS participants, and assisting with the coordination of all aspects of in-country program operations including onsite activities. Among the primary responsibilities, SDs are ensuring high levels of program quality, acting promptly in emergency and crisis situations, and working effectively with students before and throughout their study abroad experience. This individual lives in, or near Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), remains on-call when students are in Vietnam, has a flexible schedule, can juggle multiple balls at once; stays calm under pressure, including participant emergencies; is passionate about Vietnam, and wants to be involved in international education.
CIS currently offers the following programs in Vietnam:
CISabroad Study Abroad semester programs in HCMC: study terms begin in Jan/Feb; July, and Aug/Sept
CISaustralia and CISabroad short term study program in HCMC (July each year)
CISaustralia and CISabroad internship programs in HCMC
Various short term custom programs in and around Ho Chi Minh
CIS On-site Branding
Maintain a visible CIS presence
Ensure that students connect their ‘Site Director’ to CIS and that the association is favorable
Promote the CIS brand in all program operations (i.e. participant orientations, excursions, correspondence with students, etc.)
Hold regular “office hours”, and connect frequently with students via e-mail and/or social media
Arrange airport pick-up and greet students at the airport when this is not arranged by the university or other pre-approved partner
Coordinate and deliver the CIS Orientation for all incoming students
Meet with students individually for periodic check-ins
Help coordinate and deliver the CISabroad La Vida Local™ series, which is the cultural enrichment program that includes excursions, and other educational activities
Collaborate with CISabroad and the host university staff to plan participant services:
Medical and Psychological Issues
Communicate current and reliable information concerning health and safety to students and CIS Staff:
Risks in the Local Environment
Safety and Emergency Campus Protocol
Excursion Risks and Dangers
Be available as a 24 hour emergency contact when students are onsite
Communicate with incoming students
Welcome accepted students and establish one’s self as a point of contact
Answer student’s questions in a timely manner
Maintain a virtual presence on CIS social networking sites
Keep a digital archive of photos and blogs updated on social networking / web sites
Prepare students for their study abroad experience by managing expectations
Coordination of Programs:
Collaborate with the Vietnam Program Coordinators in the U.S./Australia to manage onsite program components in accordance with CIS policies and contracts, and with the CIS Custom Program Teams as needed
Assist in the creation of program budgets, budget skeletons, and program calendars
Manage program finances and submit quarterly expense reports to the US office
Screen and train host families if needed
Communicate frequently with Vietnam Program Coordinators in the U.S./Australia about any issues onsite
Coordinate and implement appropriate activities and other co-curricular programs, including the CISabroad orientation for all CIS semester students
Plan day and overnight excursions (i.e. CISabroad La Vida Local™ excursions)
Serve as a point of contact for any participant requests for academic exceptions, complaints, appeals, etc.
Assist in the writing and editing of program materials such as newsletters, handbooks, program details, pre-departure information.
Assist with the participant evaluation process
Evaluate and address concerns for students with special needs
Customized Programs and Site Visits
Assist CISabroad and CISaustralia Customized Programs Division with developing and planning customized programs:
Research local points of interest, housing options, dining options, transportation options, and educational opportunities for customized programs
Plan program logistics
Organize teaching space
Provide logistical support to visiting US study abroad advisors and faculty
The CIS Vietnam Site Director is a part time position (with more intensive commitments during the start of academic semesters, and periodically for short term customized programs), though the SD will be expected to be on call for emergencies. More specifically:
Average expectation of approximately 15-20 hours of work per week at the beginning of the CIS semester programs, and 4 hours per week during the middle and at the end of the semester program.
Average expectation of approximately 5-8 hours of work per week at the beginning of the CIS short term study programs in July and 2-3 hours per week during the middle and at the end of these same programs.
The Site Director qualified for this position will be compensated primarily based on enrolment. This position works very closely with the program coordinator for Vietnam, the Custom Programs’ teams (as needed) and reports to Assistant Director of International Operations and CISaustralia Admissions and Enrolments Manager.

Desired start: October, 2017 No students will be on-site in Vietnam until 2018. In September, October, November, and December there will be roughly 10 hours per month required for training, and program preparation work. This work will include visiting potential student housing options. This work will be compensated for on an hourly basis.

3-4 years of professional work experience, preferably with
Australian/US university students in the field of International Education.
In-depth knowledge of local culture, history, business practices, languages and academic environment
Strong knowledge of Australian/US university system and the Australian/US student experience
Ability to empathize with Australian/US participants and to understand their cultural perspectives
Solid organizational skills
Strong leadership skills and a commitment to customer service
Ability to work on a varied schedule
