Summary: The number of people interested in becoming a digital nomad continues to grow, and those that are interested in a thriving metropolis as a destination would be wise not to scratch Dublin - and other cities in Ireland - off your list.

It might seem contrarian for some that we're highlighting life as a digital nomad in Dublin. After all, living in Dublin can be very expensive, cramped, and it isn't exactly a sun worshiper's paradise.

But let's look at what it does have... plenty of opportunities for freelance and contract work, which can be found on sites such as Indeed.com, for people with the right skills. You can also find plenty of start up jobs in Dublin to pursue, and some of those will be telecommute- or contract-type positions. (Do also read our article that offers tips for tech expats in Dublin.)

Again, it's worth noting... you have to have the right skills to be a DIGITAL nomad, regardless of where you want to travel.

And Dublin has so much going on... as with New York City, there is plenty of culture, history, nightlife, music, and all kinds of other opportunities. And if you want to try somewhere other than Dublin on the Emerald Isle, plesk.com suggests that "if you want to experience a mixture of the old and the new, why not start your experience off in Galway? One of the the biggest coworking space companies in the world, WeWork has offices in Dublin.

You'll find a lot of other options on Coworker.com for Ireland, and Dublin in particular.

One of the more impressive options is the Bank of Ireland Workbench. On it's site it describes the workbench as "a unique concept which connects entrepreneurs, Branch, and community by offering free dedicated space for co-working, seminars, clinics and events to encourage innovation and new ideas."

And for those times when you're looking for a more independent relaxed atmosphere of a cafe, here are some options noted by Lovin Dublin in their article 10 Best Places To Grab A Coffee And Work In Dublin With Free Wifi.

If you're looking for places to stay, Airbnb Dublin and Airbnb Ireland are also a good place to start. Expat Exchange's article about 5 Neighborhoods to Consider in Dublin offers a good place to start if you might consider staying a bit longer in the city. Also, here are 10 Tips for Living in Ireland.

So there's no question that if you're looking for an exotic tropical paradise, Ireland may not be the place for you, but it has a lot to offer for Digital Nomads looking to explore a bustling metropolitan area with loads of cultural and career development opportunities.

Also remember to read ExpatExchange's general article about Global Nomads. We will keep that updated with articles as they roll out to help you better understand the digital and global nomad trends as they continue to develop and emerge.
